The Yankees held a pre-game ceremony for Flight 1549′s Captain Sullenberger of Danville California, First Officer Jeff Skiles and Flight Attendant, Doreen Welsh. They got a great ovation and after the National Anthem, Challenger, the American Bald Eagle flew in from the outfield.
Sullenberger, a reported lifelong Yankee fan, threw out the first pitch – a little outside but it didn’t bounce. (video)
He will also do the same for the SF Giant’s on April 7th. The Oakland A’s wanted him too but he will be on vacation.
Jeff Skiles lives in Oregon, Wisconsin and will throw out first pitch for the Milwaukee Brewers’ home opener against the Cubbies on April 10th.
Doreen Welsh is from Ambridge, PA and got to see her Steelers win the Super Bowl. I don’t know if she’s a Pirates fan as well.
Maybe Skiles and Welsh will take part in the sausage and pirogi races…
