Energy security detail contracted flu in Mexico
What happened to “Energy Secretary Chu’s lead security detail”?

Here is the timeline of the lead security detail for Energy Secretary Chu.  Good to know that he and his family all survived and that he is back at work. Compiled from WH press briefing.

Case Zero: April 2nd, 5 y/o Mexican boy, LaGloria, remote mountain town, pig farms, population 3K, survived

ROBERT GIBBS
APRIL 30TH

Unknown man – I hope he remains so.

Three members of the individual’s family tested positive for Type A influenza, and tests are currently underway to determine if they contracted the 2009 H1N1 influenza strain.  Individual family members suffered mild to moderate symptoms, received no medication, were not hospitalized, and have recovered.

13th Arrived in Mexico City – [Had to be infected right away. Who? Where? What did he bring with him?]

16th Began feeling ill

17th Fever

18th Returned to US via commercial flight – in the infectious state [How many got ill?]

19th Spread it to his nephew [Ever tested? Did he pass it along?]

20 – 21st Went to Dept of Energy - co-worker in car developed symptoms [Tested negative - when? How many times?]

20 – 21st Wife and young son developed symptoms [Right on 3-day incubation. How young? Both healthy? How severe of symptoms? Who was more ill?]

24th – Went family MD – related travel history – no testing, no medication [Why? Why else did he go? Unknown what if any symptoms still existed.]

25th – Him, his wife and young son went to urgent care, rapid flu tests – NEGATIVE

28th – Followed up with the Anne Arundel County health authorities. Wife and daughter tested POSITIVE for Influenza A subtype unknown (this flu is A subtype H1N1) Further testing being done at CDC.

28th – He tested NEGATIVE - 2 weeks post exposure.

I’m guessing they only tested for the antigen (acute exposure) not the antibody (developed in response to the antigen – responsible for recovery).

There are also false negatives. Person in car?

And the test result is only as good as the person collecting the specimen, the handling and testing.

What is omitted is the number of other people it vectored to.

How many else were exposed on the plane in the doctor’s office and through coincidental contact?

Exiled VP Biden would be interested in knowing how many people on the commercial flight were exposed and subsequently infected or if any plane’s air system has been or are being tested positive for the virus.

And unless this man is a sloppy rude person coughing, and sneezing into people’s faces [no way] – it reveals just how infectious the virus is.

One man at minimum infected 4 (probably 5) people.
