July 22, 2009Cook County board: ticket small marijuana possession
July 22, 2009July 21, 2009
IL Senate approves medical marijuana — goes to House
Cook County board voted to decriminalize the possession of small amounts of marijuana — less than 10 grams — in unincorporated Cook County. Sheriff’s Police would then have the option of writing a $200 ticket instead of the arresting reeferite on a misdemeanor charge. At present, possession of just 2.5 grams is a misdemeanor punishable by up to 30 days in jail and a $1,500 fine.
And how many get thrown out anyway?
Ticket = money for the county + no record for the person paying the fine. Win-win.
The ordnance needs to be approved by Board President Todd Stroger and would take 60 days to going into effect.
When asked if he would sign it?
STROGER: I don’t know. I wasn’t paying enough attention to it. I’ll find out about it later. I can’t comment on it.
Sheriff TOM DART was surprised that the vote took place without being heard in the public forum.
His spokesman STEVE PATTERSON:
We’d like there to be some discussion on it before it takes effect.
How about the Burr Oak Cemetery investigation already over $300K?

dave “humor” = disgusting insult to astronauts
July 22, 2009July 21, 2009
Yesterday dave’s top ten was about the 40th Anniversary of the lunar landing and this is how he honored them with his #1:
Aldrin admitted taking one giant leap onto Armstrong’s wife.
How is that funny and to whom?
Then this tired sexist:
Paula Abdul may not be going back to American Idol, which means President Obama will have to nominate a new judge….If Paula does leave, that means the contestants will have to start sleeping with each other.
Today dave chats about barry’s mom jeans.
Fat joke:
President in tight jean was Al Gore’s campaign slogan.
Dyke joke (old standby – not Sotomayor):
Baggy Dad jeans a look popularized, of course, by Rosie O’Donnell.
Hillary joke:
In all honesty, if we’d have wanted a president who looked good in pants, we would have elected Hillary – you know what I mean?
Sexist:
This is Sarah Palin’s last week in office as Governor of Alaska….she’s going back to her old job as IHOP hostess.
Predictable:
Sunday’s a big day – that’s the day she plans to go out on her porch and wave goodbye to Russia….and she’ll run back inside and jiggle the handle.
NBC: Sorry, POTUS, Ms Boyle’s top billing
July 21, 2009July 21, 2009
Susan Boyle posts/videos/interviews
Who knew?
Ms Boyle has more star power….than barry.
Yep.
And that’s NBC talking.
barry wanted to have his “press conference” at 9pm and found the networks weren’t exactly hopping on. It’s his 4th prime time “press conference” in 6 months in addition to his gazillionith interview.
FOX, of course, said no straight out – like last time. “So You Think You Can Dance” is a lot more entertaining than watching teleprompter barry pretend to answer unscreened questions.
Meredith Vieira did an interview (preview) with Ms Susan Boyle that will be televised Wednesday morning on the Today Show with an encore during that prize time slot on “America’s Got Talent”. barry certainly knew this on Friday when he decided to have a press conference and chose Wednesday – probably for that exact reason – so he could preempt Ms Boyle.
Wrong.
Meredith Vieira just interviewed barry and Brian Williams did his sleepover shows — so why would NBC give up a slot folks have been waiting for for months?
Ms Boyle blew the first president to use YouTube (because it didn’t exist until 2005) right out of the water – last counting she was closing in on 500 million hits. And now the most powerful man in the world is being preempted by a woman who was singing Karaoke in her local pub four months ago.
Can you imagine what that is doing to his Ego?
I can’t type I’m laughing so hard.
So, the WH capitulated. They had no choice. How would it look if barryTV NBC didn’t cover his press conference?
As per The Live Feed – here’s how the WH spun it:
In response to a request for comment, a White House representative said, “In speaking with various media outlets, we found that rescheduling for one hour earlier would help us to arrange for as many Americans as possible to hear directly from the President at the press conference.”

UPDATE: WordPress suspended the blog
There is a post that has our website attached to it that is entirely bogus. It is written by PYXUY0QY. I substituted a Zero for the “O” – same as in the title and below. There are pictures and a video and who knows what else. It has nothing to do with us. They have a dark blue avatar (or whatever it’s called) and ours is light green. Our site is not affiliated with any other site on the internet. Anyone know what we can do about this?

Here’s Lou Dobbs commenting on the Delaware townhall video where a woman questions Rep Mike Castle (R-DE) about barry’s birth certificate/citizenship and then goes on to lead folks in the Pledge of Allegiance. I don’t know why but that video cracks me up.

Rep Castle (R-DE): “He is a citizen of the United States”

Updated list of birth certificate posts
Update: Theodore’s World has a firsthand account of the event. There were about 200 folks present and evidently it is in the conservative part of the state.
This poor man had no idea what was coming. He just stands there and then all he can come up with is the President is a citizen. The folks on the panel aren’t any help. These types of meetings are going to keep happening – especially since this video exists and has already made it on CNN thanks to Lou Dobbs. And because it was on Lou Dobbs it made it on Media Matters. And Chris Matthews played it over and over and so did Rick Sanchez.
Rep Mike Castle from Delaware previous Governor of Delaware – June 30th townhall. He was one of the 8 Reps to vote for barry’s Cap and Trade.

Lady in Red holds up her birth certificate in a baggie and says: I want to go back to January 20th. Why are you people ignoring his birth certificate?
Audience: Yeah! Clapping.
Lady in Red: He is not an American citizen. He is a citizen of Kenya….I don’t want this flag to change. I want my country back!
Audience: Clapping, whistling.
REP CASTLE: I don’t know what type of comment that invites. If you’re referring to the-the-the President there – he is a citizen of the United States.
Audience: Prove it!!
REP CASTLE: But he is a citizen of the United States.
Audience: Prove it!!
He tries to call on someone else. The same woman gets up and begins speaking. Watch the eye roll by the woman in the white shirt before she picks her nose.
LADY IN RED: For all the men and women have been died for this country from 1776 till the present time. I think we should all stand up and give the Pledge of Allegiance to that wonderful flag…lost their lives for our freedom. Everybody stand up and…
REP CASTLE tries to speak over them: Ok, we can do this when we leave.
Some guy yells: Do you know it?!
People stand and recite the Pledge of Allegiance.
REP CASTLE tries to keep talking.
Guy yells: You probably don’t even know it!!!
REP CASTLE gets the hint and joins in: I pledge allegiance to the Flag of the United States of America, and to the Republic for which it stands, one Nation under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all.
Then: Now we can get back to healthcare…

barry stalling on gitmo report
July 21, 2009July 20, 2009
Tomorrow barry’s minions were to have a report ready detailing barry’s policy on detaining terror suspects. Something Gibbs has been tap dancing around. Instead, the task forces have been given extensions: detention policy – 6 months and interrogation policy – 2 months. So that means the detention policy task force report will be due on the anniversary of his executive order that said he would have Guantanamo Bay shut down in a year. How can that be take as anything other than evidence that it will not be closed as promised?
ACLU’s Executive Director ANTHONY ROMERO:
The Obama administration must not slip into the same legal swamp that engulfed the Bush administration with its failed Guantanamo policies. Any effort to revamp the failed Guantanamo military commissions or enact a law to give any president the power to hold individuals indefinitely and without charge or trial is sure to be challenged in court and it will take years before justice is served.
The only way to make good on President Obama’s promise to shut down Guantanamo and end the military commissions is to charge and try the detainees in established federal criminal courts. Any effort to do otherwise will doom the Obama administration to lengthy litigation. A promise deferred could soon become a promise broken.

Updated list of birth certificate posts
Here is ORLY TAITZ’s press release re: Major Cook’s case.
I was asked to provide an update and explanation in regards to Major Cook’s case. At the hearing the main point that the Judge brought forward, was the fact that since the military caved in and revoked Major Cook’s orders to go to Afghanistan, he will not be deployed from Fort Benning, GA, and Judge Land in GA no longer has jurisdiction over the case. He recommended that I refile in the Federal Court in the Middle district of Florida, where Major Cook resides and where his employer, Simtech, inc is located. The judge recommended that I file a legal action for damages, as the military has applied enormous pressure on the owner of Simtech, Larry Grise , to fire Major Cook in retaliation for him asking a question about the legitimacy of Obama for position of the Commander in Chief.
I am currently redoing the pleadings and I will refile in Florida.
Sincerely
Dr. Orly Taitz, ESQ

Letterman: “our goal is to put a man on Sonia Sotomayor”
July 19, 2009July 16, 2009
Yep. He’s still a pig. And the way he laughed and smiled he knew he was going to get away with it. And he has. I was looking for a video and didn’t even see any comments on the “joke”.
He was talking about the upcoming anniversary of the small step and giant leap and he said:
It’s been forty years since we put a man on the moon — now our goal is to put a man on Sonia Sotomayor.
He’s basically calling Judge Sotomayor a lesbian. She doesn’t have a shrill voice or cackle and he has to be careful about race jokes so he attacks her sexuality – just like he does with every woman. He has major issues. Especially with powerful women. He never refers to them by their titles. Ever heard him say Barack? And how many times have you heard “Hillary” and “Sarah” and even just Michelle?
How often did dave joke about Justice Souter’s sexuality or lack there of? And he had Anderson Cooper on as a guest – did he make any gay jokes about him?
No. He talked about Bernie Madoff’s “butt boy”.
Bernie Madoff – well his accountant, his little buddy, his little butt boy — what did I say? Did I say butt boy? I’m sorry. That’s how we get those Emmy nominations.
And what was actually funny wasn’t intended as such. I’m glad I found a video because it’s easier to see cooper’s body language than describe it. The meaning is clear.
Superwerko
Cooper was there hyping his interview with barry in Ghana. First 30 seconds of the video
dave says: Help me out here. I think I know what this is –”President Obama’s African Journey” – first trip back to his HOMELAND since he’s been president. Is that correct?
Cooper smiles: TECHNICALLY, his homeland is America.
dave: His ancestral home.
Cooper laughs: He was born in America.
Then he smiles, shakes his head and pulls on his collar, proving he knows the birth certificate is a real issue.
And why do you suppose he didn’t specify Hawaii?
Iran: human rights lawyer Shadi Sadr kidnapped, jailed
July 19, 2009July 18, 2009
The evil continues unabated in Iran. According to the International Campaign for Human Rights, human rights lawyer SHADI SADR was forcibly abducted in front of witnesses on her way to Friday prayers. She was doing nothing but walking when people “in civilian clothes” shoved her into a car and drove off. She was allowed to call her husband and told him that she had been arrested and was being detained in Evin prison. It must not have been much of a surprise since the Iranian Gestapo had searched their home and then took keys so they could do it to her law office. CNN (said she was beaten as well but doesn’t say where. Ms Sadr has medical problems requiring medication and was due to be operated on next week.
And she is not the first human rights lawyer to be arrested. Several others, including ABDOLFATTAH SOLTANI, KAMBIZ NOUROUZI and MOHAMMED ALI DADKHAH, have been detained. I imagine they’re men. What does it say when the government is publicly arresting folks who are well-known in the international community as protectors of human rights?
At Friday prayers, as was expected, cleric and former President ALI AKBAR HASHEMI RAFSANJAMI called for Iranian intelligence and security forces to release illegally detained protesters – as many as 2000 have been rounded up in the month since the “election”.
The response?
Tear gas, beatings and more arrests.
Witnesses state 40 people were beaten and shoved in car trunks and hauled off…to where? Prison? A dark alley? A community grave? A gallows? A beheading square?
Who is supplying the tear gas?
An email sent out of Iran to Radio Free Europe on July 2nd said the Basij were torturing folks by forcefully urinating down their throats.
What kind of savages think up such things?
And if they are doing that to men – what are they doing to women and children whose abuse is already sanctioned? What did they do to the woman and children pilgrims who were beaten and arrested while they were praying at a sacred shrine?
Is nothing sacred?
Why is this being allowed to continue?
Imagine the growing frustration of the Iranian citizens, who did their part to get the world’s attention, but have watched the world ignore them. Amnesty International said the UN and the Human Rights Council haven’t gone there to investigate the atrocities.
What is taking so long? The protests started on June 12.
And who really knows what is going on there? No foreign journalists have been allowed in, there’s no internet access and the government is tracking cellphone traffic.
How many innocent law-abiding citizens who took video and uploaded it to YouTube have been detained?
Have they found the person who videotaped NEDA AGHA SOLTAN‘s murder?

What have they done to Neda’s friend who accompanied her and who was also standing by peacefully?
It’s absolutely miraculous that the Iranian doctor, who was at Neda’s side when she shot down like an animal made it out to tell the world what he witnessed. No. There are no coincidences. What has been done to his elderly parents who live in Tehran? Other family members? His business partners? His neighbors? The last UK Embassy worker they are holding as punishment because the doctor talked to the BBC and lives in the UK? No one watching the doctor’s video testimony could rationally question it. The look of horror on his face cannot be faked nor can his description of survivor’s guilt. And he came forward knowing full well what would happen to him and those left behind in Iran.
And what happened to the folks who disarmed and took the papers off the Basij murderer – who spontaneously admitted that he “didn’t mean to kill her“? Were they able to transmit his picture and/or his identity papers? He certainly knows what they look like and certainly has the motive to find and then silence them.
How many people have been tortured to death?
Why is the Arab World standing by and allowing this to happen other than that’s what they always do?
Are they that impotent? Are they that afraid of that evil little Hitler and the Supreme “Holy” man, who sanctions violence and uses “prayer services” to incite Death to America! propaganda?
One thing has been made perfectly clear by the unprovoked bombings of Israel by Hamas – who is surrounded on all sides and cannot perpetuate evil unless they are directly aided by another Arab country – and the violence in Iran – the Arab World is not interested in peace. They are not interested in stopping the violence. They prefer to remain savages rooted in the stone age.

Cook v Good dismissed
Orly Taitz re: Cook dismissal (video)
As expected, Cook v Good was dismissed. The relief Major Cook sought with his TRO was provided by the Army’s decision to rescind his deployment — something Major Cook could request up until he deployed. There was no issue for the judge to rule on – so case dismissed.
The dismissal does not mean the question of barry’s citizenship is frivolous. There was no judgment made on barry’s eligibility. There was no ruling on whether he is indeed a natural born citizen. There was no determination on whether he actually has produced sufficient proof of birth/citizenship.
The case was dismissed because Major Cook did not have standing – without which there is no case – and because he had already gotten the remedy he sought when the Army revoked his deployment orders.
Here is the video from the LEDGER-ENQUIRER of Major Cook and Orly Taitz outside the Courthouse. I can’t embed it for some reason. Found the video on Youtube though not the full clip. I’m not positive–but from the questions asked and since they go in and don’t discuss the ruling — I think this is before the hearing.
It’s clear how uninformed the male questioner is. He actually asks Major Cook if he shouldn’t just respect his deployment orders no matter who the president is.
It’s hard to blame (some of) the anti-birthers when this is the type of interview and lack of awareness of the issue they repeatedly see and hear. Kitty Pilgrim on her bit started with “the facts” and “the evidence” and got almost everything wrong. How can someone go on camera and risk their own integrity – and act so indignant – when they have no clue what they are talking about? I’ll be getting to her interview next as well as Lou Dobbs’ little segment.
GOPPatriots
MALE QUESTIONER: Does the Barack Obama Administration make you change the way you feel about the United States Military?
MAJOR COOK: Not at all. I love the Army. I want to continue to serve in the Army.
If Barack Obama was indeed a citizen would you [unintelligible] to Afghanistan?
In a heartbeat. If we can establish that he is in fact president of the United States, legally, I’m on the airplane the next day over to Afghanistan — if they cut my deployment orders – so I can do my job that I want to do.
How long have you been in the military?
I’ve been in the military 21 years.
What if someone said you signed up for the US Military, and no matter what your president is, you should, you know, respect your, uhm, orders to deploy? What would you say about that no matter who your president was?
That’s irrelevant. What’s relevant is the legality of the order. And if one cannot establish the validity and legality of the order, by the very nature of the oath we serve – the oath we swear and how we serve – we would be following illegal orders and subject to prosecution. If captured, if I am following illegal orders, I could be prosecuted both by the Uniform Code of Military Justice. And if captured, I would not be privy to protections under the Geneva Convention.
What’s the sentiment among your fellow soldiers during this trial that’s coming up?
Thus far, I’ve received quite a bit of popular support from officers in my grade and some officers a grade above and some officers a grade below. So, thus far, I would say 90 percent positive that I’m getting – the traffic I’m seeing.
What kind of precedent do you think this is going to set for future cases such as this? [Such as this??]
This is a critical precedent to set because, with this–there needs to be a mechanism established to accurately and positively identify and verify the validity of someone whose running for such high office as President of the United States.

Video comments after the ruling. Provided by Ledger-Enquirer.com, which is now demanding registration to get in. goppatriots same video on youtube.
FEMALE REPORTER: You knew he was president when you volunteered in May — what happened?
MAJOR COOK: At that time it didn’t occur to me that it would be germane to my deployment. And as the deployment got closer and closer and closer, I was thinking I now will be going into harm’s way and I have to verify, for sure, that the orders I’m following are lawful orders. And that’s at which time I began to question that and…not so much the deployment – but the legality of the deployment.
I am more than happy, ready, willing and able to deploy and do my duty in Afghanistan as so ordered. But only under lawful orders.
Alot of people have accused you of being a modern day draft dodger trying to get out of deployment? You don’t think that’s the case?
He shouldn’t have dignified her question with an answer but he went on to detail his service, which included combat. He also deployed to Iraq and Afghanistan in Jan/Feb 2009 on a fact finding mission as a contractor. And then there’s the minor issue that draft dodgers were legally required to show up and he volunteered, while he was under no obligation to do so. Another misunderstanding in this case.
MAJOR COOK: Whatever capacity, I am happy to serve and do my job, as either an officer in the Army of the United States or as a defense contractor working for the Department of Defense.
And that’s where it gets dicey. It looks like it will be doing neither right now. In the injunction Tait filed (SEE LINK ABOVE), she alleged Major Cook was fired from his civilian job at Simtech, Inc, which is a Department of Defense contractor, because he brought suit. Major Cook had taken a military leave of absence from his job in preparation to deploy and within hours of the Army telling him he didn’t have to go anywhere, his employer told him he didn’t have a job. I don’t know anything subsequent.
And then the female reporter talks as if Major Cook isn’t standing right in front of her.
No one’s doubting his service (please re-read her last question) and his commitment – he says he’ll deploy – that’s not the question.
Taitz answers that the orders have to be legal…and barry’s arrogant…she is never going to be taken seriously because she has made it a personal issue with barry.
In terms of if you want to deploy again – what would you need to see for you to be able to volunteer again?
For me to volunteer to deploy, I need to see that the individual who is sitting the Office of the Presidency – the President of the United States – is legally able to do so. That’s all I need to see.
Note the tense: “need” to see – not “would need” to see.

Colleagues remember Walter Cronkite
July 18, 2009July 18, 2009
I find it hard to fathom how nowaday journalists can speak of themselves in the same breath as Mr Walter Cronkite. Here are a few of their sound bites from the news – which make me wonder how they reconcile what they honor about Mr Cronkite with how they have behaved in regards to barry.
Will they change their behavior now that they know he can hear them?
Originally, I wanted to know what Mr Cronkite thought about the obvious pro-barry media coverage – in particular what he thought about their nonvetting and embargoing of harmful information or just plain ignoring of it (Rezko). I find it hard to believe he wouldn’t have asked barry straight out to produce his birth certificate. (I don’t know if he weighed in on it.) But then I realized that if he, too, was mesmerized it would be too much.
ROGER MUDD:
He was reassuring, he was comfortable. And when you listened to him you knew he knew his business. He had control of his broadcast and he was leveling with you. He was an honest man.
KATIE COURIC:
What I take away [shaking her head] from everything I know about Walter Cronkite is that good journalism matters. Seeking the truth is really important.
DAN RATHER (looks ill):
He was, literally, a living legend and now a legend in memory.
BARBARA WALTERS:
He was someone who made us feel safe and secure.
TOM BROKAW:
He was a quintessential American. He came from the Heartland. He wasn’t flashy one way or the other and his reporting was straightforward.
MADAME SECRETARY CLINTON (smiling): [full statement]
He was so kind to Bill and me. He took us sailing off of Martha’s Vineyard. Offered advice – both solicited and unsolicited - that we tried to follow.
Secretary Clinton re: Walter Cronkite
July 18, 2009July 18, 2009
Here is the complete statement by Secretary Clinton re: Walter Cronkite via Stacyx at SecretaryClinton.wordpress. I saw Clinton give part of the statement and she was smiling fondly, especially about the sailing and the “solicited and unsolicited advice”.
SECRETARY HILLARY CLINTON:
I think every American who grew up with Walter Cronkite as I did just feels a great sense of loss today. Here we are in India and I’m thinking about all of the images that made up our history. Walter Cronkite telling us that President Kennedy had died. Walter Cronkite doing the coverage of the moon landing and walking 40 years ago. Walter Cronkite being a presence almost like a member of the family year after year. When I got to know him personally in the early 90s, I found him to be a man filled with energy and life. He was so kind to Bill and me. He took us out sailing off the coast of Martha’s Vineyard. He offered us advice, both solicited and unsolicited, that we tried to follow. It’s a great time to look back and think about someone who played such a major role in explaining what was going on and did it in a calm, fact-based way without embellishments that too often get in the way of really understanding what’s going on. He will be greatly missed.
What politician on the planet appreciates a fair, fact-based journalist more than Secretary Clinton?
Anyone know what Mr Cronkite thought of ESPN’s Herr Olbermann?
Cook v Good: Judge Clay’s opinion
July 18, 2009July 17, 2009
Here is a copy of the Cook v Good dismissal with the full judge’s opinion. It was dismissed for lack of subject matter jurisdiction, which at its core is lack of standing. The dismissal does not mean barry is eligible or the birthers are wrong. It means simply that the case did not have the technical requirements to be heard. Just like all the other cases.
Plus, the case was already moot. Major Cook arrived in court with the remedy he sought already provided by the Army.
Judge Land’s decision was taken care of by the Army, which may have come from barry himself.
He did take the opportunity to have a mini-rant – though nothing like Judge Robertson’s. And he referred to Orly Taitz as a “him”.

Every day. Not being on…I don’t miss being on the air. I miss being at the center of gravity where you’re getting these stories together, getting the broadcast together — really setting the agenda for people’s consideration. That’s an important job, and I miss that.
As for his wife, Betsy Maxwell, who he met in 1936, married in 1940 and loved until her passing in 2005:
She was one of the most beautiful people I ever saw in my life. I saw her for the first time … coming down the hall … and I fell in love before I ever knew her name, or what she did, or whether I would ever see her again in life.

POTUS re: Walter Cronkite
July 17, 2009July 17, 2009
POTUS statement:
For decades, Walter Cronkite was the most trusted voice in America. His rich baritone reached millions of living rooms every night, and in an industry of icons, Walter set the standard by which all others have been judged.
He was there through wars and riots, marches and milestones, calmly telling us what we needed to know. And through it all, he never lost the integrity he gained growing up in the heartland.
But Walter was always more than just an anchor. He was someone we could trust to guide us through the most important issues of the day; a voice of certainty in an uncertain world. He was family. He invited us to believe in him, and he never let us down. This country has lost an icon and a dear friend, and he will be truly missed.
Sen Lugar: Yea to Sotomayor
July 17, 2009July 17, 2009
barry’s travel buddy and ever-important swing state Republican, Sen Dick Lugar (R-IN), is the first Republican to officially back Judge Sotomayor.
From the Office of Senator Dick Lugar:
I have listened to the testimony of Judge Sonia Sotomayor before the Senate Judiciary Committee, carefully reviewed her public service record, and reviewed recommendations from Indiana constituents and colleagues here in the Senate.
Judge Sotomayor is clearly qualified to serve on the Supreme Court and she has demonstrated a judicial temperament during her week-long nomination hearing. Judge Sotomayor has had a distinguished career of public service. She is well regarded in the legal community and by her peers.
I will vote to confirm Judge Sonia Sotomayor’s nomination to serve as an Associate Justice of the Supreme Court of the United States.
Sen Specter: Yea to Sotomayor
July 17, 2009July 17, 2009
Sen McConnell: Nay
Sen Lugar: Yea
Who’s listening to the politically bi-curious Arlen Specter nowadays?
The people he represented for decades?
Or the people he said for decades were were the problem?
From the Office of Senator Arlen Specter:
Judge Sonia Sotomayor brought to the Judiciary Committee hearings an outstanding record academically, as a prosecutor and as a commercial lawyer plus 17 distinguished years as a federal judge. At the hearings she displayed intellect, restraint and judicial demeanor.
As the third woman and the first Hispanic, she will add needed diversity to the Supreme Court.
I intend to vote for her and urge my colleagues to do the same.

Sen McConnell: Nay to Sotomayor

Yeas: Sen Specter & Sen Lugar
Senate Minority Leader, Mitch McConnell (R-KY) is not Judge Sotomayor fan and will not be voting to confirm her like he didn’t in 1998. His formal opposition will be delivered Monday (20th). Here are some “unembargoed excerpts” of prepared statement. Emphasis added.
I don’t know McConnell’s beliefs or policies or voting record or his view toward women in power or women in general – but he makes very good points that are backed up with Judge Sotomayor’s own words.
From the Office of Senator Mitch McConnell:
From the beginning of this confirmation process, I’ve said that Americans expect one thing when they walk into a court room, whether it’s a traffic court or the Supreme Court — and that’s equal treatment under the law. Over the years, Americans have accepted significant ideological differences in the kinds of men and women that various presidents have nominated to the Supreme Court. But one thing Americans will never tolerate in a nominee is a belief that some groups are more deserving of a fair shake than others. Nothing could be more offensive to the American sensibility than that. Judge Sotomayor is a fine person with an impressive story and a distinguished background. But above all else, a judge must check his or her personal or political agenda at the courtroom door and do justice even-handedly, as the judicial oath requires.
Judge Sotomayor’s record of written statements suggest an alarming lack of respect for the notion of equal justice, and therefore, in my view, an insufficient willingness to abide by the judicial oath. This is particularly important when considering someone for the Supreme Court since, if she were confirmed, there would be no higher court to deter or prevent her from injecting into the law the various disconcerting principles that recur throughout her public statements. For that reason, I will oppose her nomination.
In her writings and in her speeches, Judge Sotomayor has repeatedly stated that a judge’s personal experiences affect judicial outcomes. She has said her experiences will affect the facts that she chooses to see as a judge. She has argued that in deciding cases judges should bring their sympathies and prejudices to bear. She has dismissed the ideal of judicial impartiality as an ‘aspiration’ that, in her view, cannot be met even in most cases. Taken together, these statements suggest not just a sense that impartiality is not possible, but that it’s not even worth the effort
Judge Sotomayor’s record on the Second Circuit is troubling enough. But, as I said, at least on the Circuit Court, there’s a backstop. Her cases can be reviewed by the Supreme Court. This meant that in the Ricci case, for example, the firefighters whose promotions were unfairly denied could appeal the decision. Fortunately for them, the Supreme Court sided with them over Judge Sotomayor. If, however, Judge Sotomayor were to become a Supreme Court Justice, there would be no backstop. Her rulings would be final. She’d be unencumbered by the obligation of lower court judges to follow precedent. She could act more freely on the kinds of views that animated her troubling and legally incorrect ruling in the Ricci case. That’s not a chance I’m willing to take.

Sen Sessions: “we’re going to do that crack cocaine thing”
July 17, 2009July 16, 2009
Sen Jeff Sessions (R-AL) and that there crack cocaine thing….
Sessions was referring to the disparate penalties for crack vs powder cocaine when he made his initial comments to WADE HENDERSON, President/CEO Leadership Conference on Civil Rights.
TPM
SESSIONS: Mr Henderson, it’s good to work with you. Senator Leahy and I are talking, during these hearings, we’re going to do that crack cocaine thing you and I have talked about before.
HENDERSON (laughing): Thank you, Senator. I appreciate that.
[Everyone else laughing]
Someone: You may want to restate that.
SESSIONS: Let me correct the record.
Someone else: Please rephrase it, Senator. Please rephrase.
SESSIONS (red-faced smile): I misspoke.
HENDERSON: No, quite alright.
SESSIONS (does the Bush hand/head gesture): We’re going to reduce the burden of penalties in some of the crack cocaine cases and make ‘em fair.
Man to his left: You got quoted on that one.

Cook v Good dismissed
Major Stefan Cook re: dismissal (text/video)
As expected, Cook v Good was dismissed. The relief Major Cook sought with his TRO was provided by the Army’s decision to revoke his deployment. Something that Major Cook could request up until he deployed. There was no issue for the judge to rule on so case dismissed.
Here is Orly Taitz talking to the press after the ruling. See link above for transcript to Major Cook’s statements here and a second video.
Taitz goes into barry’s father and the fact that barry was born with dual citizenship.
That he won’t sign a consent to allow Hawaii to release a certified copy of his birth certificate.
Mentions how that COLB is “garbage” and how easily it can be can photoshopped. [True. Watch a demonstation.]
That the court would never accept what’s on the internet.
That he’s provided no passports, immigration or school records.
I can understand her frustration but agitation and calling barry arrogant with his sycophants rolling tape isn’t going to work. The woman who wrote the articles is clearly a barryfan – you can tell from her words and the tone of the piece. I wonder if it’s the same woman that can be heard asking Major Cook questions.
