Christopher Kelly, the long time pal, fundraiser and potential government witness against Rod Blagojevich is dead. No word yet on the cause – but he was due to surrender this coming Friday to serve his prison sentence. In case you’re wondering – Blago is in NYC.
Kelly-Rezko-Blago were tight as were Kelly-Rezko-Daley and blago-Rezko-barry and Emanuel-Rezko-Blago-barry.
How much of Patrick Fitzgerald was going to rely on Kelly? And is Rezko still in protective custody?
I don’t know if blago went after Kelly in his book.
Tragic. Very tragic as Kelly has three young children.
Last week, a day before his scheduled trial was to begin, Kelly pled guilty to two counts of mail fraud re: his attempt to get a $8.5M contract at O’Hare for his roofing business. The plea agreement did not have any stipulation that he testify against blago. Kelly was already facing 3 years in prison from a plea deal in June. His sentence was to be extended another 5 and he was due to surrender next Friday 18th. He also agreed to forfeit the $450K he had pocketed.
According to Chicago Breaking News, Kelly died of salicylate intoxication aka aspirin overdose – not a determination by the coroner.
Autopsy scheduled for tomorrow.
Kelly’s attorney, Michael Monico, has declined to comment.
