This is getting bizarre. I still have yet to see the press conference – I’m looking for the video.
This is from Chicago Breaking News after the press conference.
The parking lot Kelly was in has a storage area behind it evidently – boats, cars, landscaping trucks – so they believe it’s possible he was looking to retrieve something.
Kelly and his girlfriend, who goes by Clarissa Flores exchanged text messages prior to her driving him to the hospital.
Police were called to the hospital at 0258. In the waiting room were Flores and an unidentified “white male with gray hair” who wanted the keys to Kelly’s Escalade. Flores gave an initial statement to the police.
Kelly was alert enough at that time to tell the police he had surgery to the genital region – would explain the shifting on his feet and sweating at his court hearing.
Inside the Escalade was Flores’ wallet and identification – apparently at the press conference the Mayor of Country Club Hills Dwight Welch “made a point of displaying her driver’s license to reporters, even spelling out her name, giving her address and showing her date of birth.” If true, that is about as unprofessional as it gets.
Police also found “drugs” including prescription medication in the vehicle. It’s quite possible it could have been an accidental overdose if he took too much prescribed medication in conjunction with OTC medication.
WELCH said at the press conference:
Flores has lawyered up, she’s hired an attorney and is no longer speaking to the police.
“Lawyered up” sounds like a cheap movie. Fact is she was cooperative at the ER and has since gotten a lawyer, like any sane person would. Her lawyer Terry Gillespie was irate that the mayor revealed her full name, DOB and address. Hard to believe he actually did that. Why was the mayor in possession of it and not the police?
Gillespie said he called the Country Club Hills and Chicago police but they were “too busy having press conferences.”
GILLESPIE:
It’s unconscionable grandstanding, is what it is. Ms. Flores told them last night that she would be glad to talk to them. She has absolutely nothing to hide. The fact that she asked to have a lawyer present does not mean she is in any fashion not willing to cooperate with them.
And the mayor gave reporters everything they need to camp out on her lawn and terrorize her when she just lost a man who she must have clearly been close to. Vultures.
