Hi,
I had several questions about Ellen DG & how she appropriates mainstream media to share messages such as this.
Do you think this is the best place for her to share her passion for LGBT causes.
Is appropriating mainstream media the best way to enter the imagination of the people to queer their thinking.
Does her show create the desired results for change.
It is well known that fans of the Ellen Degeneres show are primarlily white, middle class women from a 25 to 36 age demographic. Is the show the best platform to champion a cause for LGBT rights, or are there better ways to do this work.
I am interested in hearing your response, or the response of any others who read this reply.

Hello Vivian.
She was not appropriating anything to “queer” anyone’s thinking – she was doing her show, which included a guest who was pushing her book. And she wasn’t championing a “cause” – she was talking with a mother whose son was murdered.

Are you saying that she is not doing anything political related to the rights of LGBT people or that she is just simply addressing hate crimes in general by interviewing Judy Shepherd?

Judy Shepard was a guest. Period.
