Updated H1N1 posts/symptoms/vaccine

This is getting out of hand.

barry signed a proclamation last night declaring H1N1 a national emergency.

The proclamation isn’t posted on the most technologically savvy president’s website so it’s not clear what type of emergency was declared and what powers barry has granted himself. As in the “proclamation would allow medical officials to bypass certain federal requirements.”

The WH isn’t even hiding the fact they did it just because they wanted to:

This is not a response to any new developments.

It’s an important tool in our kit going forward.

Important tool of propaganda.

CDC press conference yesterday: nothing has changed as far as the virus or it’s treatability – just don’t have the amount of vaccine we’d like.

Not seeing any greater severity of the virus than we did in the spring.

It’s comparable generally to that of seasonal flu

Not seeing significant increases in drug resistance (remains overwhelmingly susceptible to Tamiflu)

No big changes in the genetic makeup of the virus that would make it less susceptible to vaccine.

H1N1 is like it was in April when man released it.

The vaccines are late getting out – just as predicted in April. The entire nation is affected – just as predicted in April. It’s affecting young people and pregnant women – just as predicted in April.

But the vaccine is efficacious at half the dose predicted in April. And there has been no spread of drug resistance or genetic adaptation making the virus less susceptible to the vaccine as was feared in April.

What’s changed?

The polls.

When’s the prime time press conference this week?

How’s he going to interrupt the World Series?

And when is the “H1N1 is a man-made bioterrorism virus” proclamation going to be published by the WH?

From CNN

barr proclamation:

The 2009 H1N1 pandemic continues to evolve. The rates of illness continue to rise rapidly within many communities across the nation, and the potential exists for the pandemic to overburden health care resources in some localities.

Thus, in recognition of the continuing progression of the pandemic, and in further preparation as a nation, we are taking additional steps to facilitate our response.

Government conveniently taking over healthcare in a time of a manmade viral emergency?

Sounds like it was a made for healthcare/health insurance reform pandemic, doesn’t it?

“Pandemic” characterizes how far the virus has spread across the globe. It doesn’t have anything to do the lethality. H1N1 didn’t suddenly become more severe once it was declared a “pandemic”.

but that’s the way barry wants the CDC to refer to it: “pandemic influenza”.

CNN: Calling the emergency declaration “an important tool in our kit going forward,” one administration official called Obama’s action a “proactive measure that’s not in response to any new development.”

Another administration official said the move is “not tied to the current case count” and “gives the federal government more power to help states” by lifting bureaucratic requirements — both in treating patients and moving equipment to where it’s most needed.

The officials didn’t want their names used because they were not authorized to speak on the record.

barry’s proclamation allows Health and Human Services Secretary Kathleen Sebelius:

to temporarily waive or modify certain requirements to help health care facilities enact emergency plans to deal with the pandemic. Those requirements are contained in Medicare, Medicaid and state Children’s Health Insurance programs, and the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act privacy rule.

barry still doesn’t have a Surgeon General.

CDC’s Dr Thomas Frieden:

  • Millions infected, at least 20K hospitalized, 1,ooo dead.
  • 46 states reporting widespread flu transmission is traditionally the hallmark of the peak of flu season. To have the flu season peak at this time of the year is “extremely unusual.”
  • 16.1 million doses of H1N1 vaccine had been made by Friday — 2 million more than two days earlier.
  • 11.3 million of those had been distributed throughout the US

One French vaccine maker can make 10 million doses a week.

Why can’t 5 manufacturers make more than 16M doses?

And now that an “emergency” has been declared – how fast will the vaccines be made?
