Jodi Cantor of the NY Times wrote a bit on barry & Michelle’s marriage.
obamessiah, certain his presidency would “make the world look at America a little differently”:
When I take that oath of office, there will be kids all over this country who don’t really think that all paths are open to them, who will believe they can be anything they want to be.
And well over half the country saw how all paths are still not open to them – precisely because of the way they look.
They watched as the more qualified woman, with a sterling resume and actual hands on experience for the job, get passed over by an unproven newcomer with nothing but a Y chromosome and the backing of the higher-ups.
They saw decades of hard work laughed off as tea-sipping when the woman was still in the running for the job. But when the man won, the woman’s same resume qualified her for top tea-sipper – a job the man couldn’t begin to do.
And they’re still watching as the woman works and the man plays basketball, makes TV appearances, flies around to fundraisers and plays golf.
Change you can believe in!
