“American Heroes: Portraits of Service” (WWII veteran photos)
On display at Soldier Field is a special art exhibit to honor the Illinois servicemembers who have died in Iraq or Afghanistan.
The exhibit is called: “Portrait of a Soldier” and consists of hand-drawn portraits by artist CAMERON SHILLING (25) of Mattoon, IL.
The first portrait Shilling drew was of Army SPC Charles Neeley, whose funeral was handled by Shilling’s father in August 2004. And what started out as a gesture of sympathy to one set of parents has grown into a display of 219 portraits. The original goes to the family and the copies make up the exhibit, which travels around the state.
