Why is he called “Conan” when he pouts and has tantrums? He could barely contain himself tonight. He’s been shamed by his own failure and is trying to blame Jay Leno for something his own people may have screwed up: time slot protection.
“NBC insider” All the chatter is just his reps covering up for their massive f— up. Leno had timeslot protection in his deal, Letterman has it in his. But Team Coco never negotiated for it.
O’Brien tried it anyway:
NBC’s response: No, there is no such guarantee of a specific timeslot for “Tonight.” So as long as we keep something called “The Tonight Show” on the air, there is no breach.
O’Brien is not funny and his ratings reflected that. It didn’t have anything to do with Jay Leno preceding him. After being on NBC for however many years he defends himself by saying he needed more than 7 months? That’s lame even for him.
It’s hard to watch him even with the sound off. Jay Leno has actual humor and timing and can laugh at himself. OBrien is a taller less talented Jerry Lewis with a more obnoxious voice. After all these years he still has to look at his notes when talking to someone and he frequently looks uncomfortable and lost for words so he resorts to weird faces and noises and body movements like a 4th grader.
Just watch the guests respond to Conan vs Jay – especially non-Americans.
O’Brien has the adulterer on his side because Letterman still hasn’t gotten over his own slight. He’s irrelevant and angry about it. And his “humor” comes from sexist attacks and 6th grade bits. That male intern he has is way funnier.
And what kind of lecher runs a company where adulterous sex with subordinates at the office, in the office, outside the office and on family vacations is not against company policy?
Jimmy Kimmel is in on it just to stay alive in the twitterverse. How much imagination does it take to paste on a fake chin and gray hair?
One thing is certain – Pouter and Adulterer can’t take the heat when the joke’s on them. All you had to do is watch both of their meltdowns. And instead of enlightening them it’s, made them more bitter. It’s all over their faces.
Here’s what DICK EBERSOL had to say.
As far as Pouter and Adulter:
[They're] chicken-hearted and gutless to blame a guy you couldn’t beat in the ratings. They’re just striking out at Jay. It seems like professional jealousy.
Not seems – is.
Evidently Ebersol warned O’Brien to broaden his appeal and he ignored the advice and the ratings reflected that.
What this is really all about is an astounding failure by Conan.
Not failure – astounding failure.
I like Conan enormously personally. He was just stubborn about not being willing to broaden the appeal of his show.
As far as them attacking Jay:
Jeff (Zucker) and I are big boys. When we do something big in the public forum and it doesn’t succeed, we know we’ll be the butt of criticism. But you don’t personally attack someone who hasn’t done anything.
Bottomline:
We bet on the wrong guy.
;And what will they have to pay to learn that lesson?
$30M.
