Beautiful version.

John Cale (Velvet Underground) sang it at the end of the movie “Basquiat” about artist Jean-Michel Basquiat. (Forget Shrek) To me that’s the best followed by k.d. Lang at the 2005 Juno Awards. [Videos HERE]

Specter’s comments (audio/text)

Rep Michele Bachmann (R-MN) talks to Sean Hannity about Sen Arlen Specter’s sit down and shut up li’l missie comments. I didn’t realize they were sitting together at the same table and could actually see each other. Although what he did was indefensible – she shares a little blame for not letting him speak. I thought she was calling in from Minnesota or DC and there was a sound lag that might have accounted for her talking over him. No excuse for turning to the host and saying “she”.

Wonder the spin Dom Giordano put on it. Will take a quick look. And no. Sen Specter has not contacted Rep Bachmann. But we sure know ow he treats his “ladies”.

Barnicle: Mass. voters feeling barry “buyer’s remorse”

Morning Joe

Discussing Sen Scott Brown’s election

MIKE BARNICLE:

I encountered a lot of people who have still enormous affection for Pre Obama = they really, really like him and yet there’s an edge to their voice as they talk about him as president that verges on buyer’s remorse about the vote they cast for him.

It’s a funny thing to hear.

It’s funny that he’s just hearing it.

Guess he was too busy laughing and calling those healthcare townhall goers and the tea partiers and the birthers crazy racists.

Was there a required donation for the celebrities to be involved?

The performers and even more so the ones answering the phones and getting their phone conversations played on air?

Millions of people are watching and donating and we should know that each one of them has donated.

MTV is putting their photos up so the participants are known but there’s no mention of whether they’ve donated.

Dr Sanjay Gupta is a hero.

Coco chuckles while wasting millions that could have gone to Haiti relief

January 22, 2010

January 22, 2010

updated

Another classy move by Coco. All he has. His ego is so enormous $32M isn’t enough revenge – he has to keep spending an exorbitant amount of NBC’s money on crap that he admits is not even funny.

$1.5M = “the most expensive car in the world” dressed like a mouse and the original master recording of the Stones’ “Can’t Get No Satisfaction”

$4.8M = 2009 Derby winner Mine That Bird, wearing a mink Snuggie and watching restricted Superbowl footage.

Today, it should be him sucking his thumb and sitting on a naughty chair wearing diapers and a dunce cap.

What he’s doing is hubris and pure spite. A complete waste of money (no matter the actual amount spent)  that could have done enormous good in Haiti and yet he uses it as a punchline. And that amount of money is going to either not be given to NBC employees as a well-deserved, overdue raise or not be available to hire more employees, or not be available for new pilots.

Does he care?

Absolutely not.

He didn’t even care about his own employees. He just quit.

Severance pay is not going to bring back their teenager’s last year at their previous high school or get them back into the college they had originally wanted to go to back East or buy back the childhood home the family had lived in or their spouse’s career that was sacrificed for the move or having to give up one they started in LA or sell the vehicle(s) they bought in LA that weren’t necessary in NYC or take care of the extended lease they signed on a condo in LA or sell the house they just bought that has a 15-year mortgage. A house/condo that if by chance they were able to sell it in the present market, will be at a considerable loss.

Then there’s the newly-found relationships, the health insurance problems, such as a pregnant spouse who may just find her pregnancy considered a “pre-existing condition” when she returns to NYC or a special needs child having lost their spot in a program not being able to get the care they need.

And no amount of money is ever going to bring back the time they weren’t able to spend with sick and dying friends and family members or weddings or birthday parties or reunions or whatever because they were so far away. And it’s not going to prevent the inevitable I told you so resentment of a spouse who did not think the move was a good idea or pay for the marriage counseling or divorce lawyers and resulting alimony and child support.

And what of Max Weinberg who wasn’t able to go on tour with Springsteen because he stuck with Coco?

And on and on it goes, while he chuckles and retires with tens of millions he never even earned.

One would think he would have a smidgeon of shame about extorting $32M for 7 months of work – crappy work – and blaming it everyone but himself. He lost 50% of the Tonight Show viewers – not Leno.

And forget that lame excuse of a bad lead-in.

What was Jay Leno’s lead-in when he was #1?

And Leno wasn’t even on when Coco was losing his audience and when he was doing the Tonight Show, Coco was doing just fine.

Another ignorant tweet memed excuse from his mindless sudden cocofans, who spew such unjustified hate it’s disgusting. Gives great insight into their souls and why they can relate to Coco.

And when Leno said not to blame Coco and that it was just business and that what the boss says goes and that you just have to be humbled – Coco went ballistic in a case of “the truth hurts”. Probably what spurred the unconscionable – literally – waste of money. And the discovery that his buyout was a cheap ass bargain compared to the $150M they would have to pay Jay couldn’t have helped.

Witness the vindictive joy a very small small man, who thinks making NBC shell out more money will distract from his own ASTOUNDING FAILURE, which is the root of his own problems. And from his immature behavior it’s clear NBC did “bet on the wrong guy”.

Thedrunkenmoments

No matter what he does or doesn’t do in the future, he will go down as the biggest dud in Tonight Show history and his legacy will amount to trying to destroy the show after he was canceled – the show he called the greatest franchise in history. He has clearly proven what a pompous lie his statement was.

And he is so wrapped up in trying to hide his embarrassment and feed his massive ego that $32M can’t fill, he doesn’t see that his behavior is turning a lot of people off, including potential future viewers, and that should he start a new show – he’ll find his sudden Cocofans doing what they were doing a month ago: not watching.

Who will he find to blame then?

Nancy Pelosi: “I don’t think it’s possible to pass the Senate bill in the House”

January 22, 2010

January 22, 2010

Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s Scott Brown-induced enlightenment on the healthcare bill.

So, in its present form without any change, I don’t think it’s possible to pass the senate bill in the House.

Some of the concerns that were expressed in Massachusetts weer about certain provisions of the Senate bill.

We want, obviously, to hear and heed what was said there and what is said across the country.

Something they weren’t interested in hearing during the townhalls or even on Jan 18th.

And for all barry’s poll watching they totally ignored what folks think about barry’s handling of healthcare and what they think of the bill.

GALLUP POLL (Jan 20, +/- 4)

What should be done with healthcare bill?

Continue working on it 39
Options with GOP support 55

There are still folks who believe he meant bipartisanship when he had no history of doing so in the Senate – voting 97% – when he did vote – with his Party.

Polanski’s wife equates child rape to “sexual liberty and permissiveness”

January 22, 2010

January 22, 2010

Polanski/Goldberg/rape posts

Polanski’s wife, Emmanuelle Seigner, thinks that her admitted child rapist husband was just a victim of the times -  equating child rape to “sexual liberty and permissiveness”. She says she knew the “story” and “accepted” it. She nowhere – in these selected quotes – says the words rape, rapist, pedophile or convicted sex offender, which is what he is and what he admitted to. He just hasn’t paid his debt to society – he fled like the cowardly pedophile he is.

Note that he was 31 years older (44-13) than the child he raped and his wife is 33 years younger than him (76-43).

Source: Sydney Morning Herald, ABC

In an interview with French version of ELLE.

As for drugging and raping of a 13 y/o child by a man more than three times her age.

Emmanuelle Seigner:

I am not a super-liberal person who thinks that nothing is that serious. I also think that at the time people didn’t live and react in the same way. Today, public opinion has considerably evolved on the subjects.

It happened years ago – she describes him as “impeccable”.

I knew the story, I had accepted it. It’s not as if it happened last week.

It is not the man I met, I fell in love with, I married. My personal truth is that Roman has always been a marvelous husband and man. He is an impeccable man, and I have nothing to reproach him for.

And if it were her daughter that was drugged and raped?

My husband has never considered himself above the law. The proof is that he pleaded guilty for having illegal sexual relations with an underage girl, that he got a prison sentence and that he served it.

Nice way to cloak it. It’s called statutory rape, which is rape. He spent 42 days in prison for a psychiatric evaluation – that’s it – after which he was to receive his final sentencing, which is why he fled, which he then blamed on the absurd notion that he would get 50 years.

As for his arrest?

I thought it was a joke. At first, I told myself they would keep him for 48 hours, then release him. It seemed absurd to arrest him now, while we’ve been coming to Switzerland for 25 years and … legally acquired a chalet three years ago.

Here she shows absolutely no insight as to what her husband did to the child he raped when he fled and what her life has been like each time his name comes up – she is the one being stalked – not him.

We could not go out because we were being pursued by the paparazzi. My children did not go to school. My parents, my sisters and my close friends would come over and bring us food. It was a strange experience, not unpleasant either, as if we were in a cocoon.

Again lack of insight. Wonder what she thinks of the scene in Rosemary’s Baby when Mia Farrow is drugged and then raped?

She also talked of her new music album, on which she said she sings a duet with Polanski about a girl who wakes up next to a man she doesn’t know after a drunken fling.

I was advised to remove it at the time (of his arrest), but I didn’t want to. It would have been like confessing to a mistake or to an uneasiness, which have no raison d’être. Negative minds will without any doubt see something, but I can assure you that there is no particular message behind all this.

Where did the idea come from? Whose idea was it?

I’m sure this case will work out all right on the American side. I’m an optimistic and positive woman.

It would have worked out 31 years ago if he hadn’t fled. Then the child he raped wouldn’t have had to be terrorized and had her grand jury testimony made public.

Who wants to admit they married and had children with an admitted and convicted pedophile?

And the convicted child rapist’s words:

I couldn’t equate what had happened that day with rape in any form.

And the odds that he had done it before and after?

What would he have done if his now 17 y/o daughter was drugged and raped by a 44 y/o man when she was 13?

Would he have difficulty equating that with rape?

Gibbs: “The President won’t meet the deadline he laid out a year ago”

January 22, 2010

Jan 22, 2010

Executive order of closure – relevant clause

Robert Gibbs from yesterday’s press briefing

Q    Tomorrow will be the one-year anniversary of President Obama saying that Guantanamo will be shut down; obviously you’re not going to make the deadline.  Do you have any idea when the process will be done?

MR. GIBBS:  I don’t know when the process will be done. I know they’ve made great progress on — look, establishing first and foremost case files and recognitions of who indeed was still there and why, the — there have been progress on that; there’s been progress on issues of siting a new detention facility.

The President won’t meet the deadline he laid out a year ago, but the President, his national security team, our generals in Iraq and Afghanistan, understand the support for al Qaeda that Guantanamo provides them in recruiting, in attracting those that seek to do us harm.  To keep the American people safe, the President pledged to close Guantanamo Bay, and he’ll do that.

Q    Does he have to amend the executive order?

MR. GIBBS:  I can check on that.

—–

He didn’t just pledge – he signed an executive order.

And as far as a recruiting tool?

barry knew about the chatter of an attack on the mainland by AQAP in Yemen.

He knew about the emergence AQAP.

He knew that former Gitmo folks have gone back to their life’s work = killing Americans.

He knew Gitmo detainees are a ripe source for vengeance.

He knew of the possibility of a Nigerian getting radicalized in Yemen.

He knew about the possibility of an attack around Christmas.

And knowing all this, he released 6 Yemenis right back into AQAP central on Dec 19th or 20th.

Dec 25th a Nigerian radicalized in Yemen attempts mass murder on the mainland.

Superior judgment???

Or again, the need to keep a campaign promise dictating action?

How long before we find out that those released detainees actually communicated with diaper bomber as a last justification?

Why has there been media silence about those freed Yemenis?

Q    — to Gitmo — who made the decision to try Abdulmutallab in federal court?  Was the President aware of this decision when he began being processed in the legal system?

MR. GIBBS:  Well, again, understand that the decision to try him was handed down in an indictment that I think took place many days afterward.  So, yes, all the team was involved in that.

Q    So the decision was made over a period of days.  I mean, there was a time between which he was taken into custody on Christmas Day and a time in which the decision was made that -

MR. GIBBS:  Well, understand this, there was a period of time in which he was taken into custody, a period of time in which experienced FBI agents interrogated him, received valuable intelligence from him.  He was arraigned at a later period of time, and later than that was indicted.

Q    And who made the decision to try him in federal court?  Did the President make that call?

MR. GIBBS:  I believe that decision is made by the Attorney General.

————–

Is made.

But whose decision WAS it?

And who put an end to the “period of time”?

Again the press corps fail to get a definitive answer. One wonders why they bother to keep up the charade.

The last big lie: I will close Guantanamo Bay in 1 year

January 22, 2010

January 22, 2010

Gibbs comments

The last big campaign promise ends up like all the others: a lie.

Public finance, FISA, Iraq, transparency, healthcare debate on C-SPAN….

And the pundits are still asking why the Democrats lost in Massachusetts.

What happens to this order?

FLASHBACK: Jan 22, 2009

EXECUTIVE ORDER — REVIEW AND DISPOSITION OF INDIVIDUALS DETAINED AT THE GUANTÁNAMO BAY NAVAL BASE AND CLOSURE OF DETENTION FACILITIES
By the authority vested in me as President by the Constitution and the laws of the United States of America, in order to effect the appropriate disposition of individuals currently detained by the Department of Defense at the Guantánamo Bay Naval Base (Guantánamo) and promptly to close detention facilities at Guantánamo, consistent with the national security and foreign policy interests of the United States and the interests of justice, I hereby order as follows:

Sec. 3Closure of Detention Facilities at GuantánamoThe detention facilities at Guantánamo for individuals covered by this order shall be closed as soon as practicable, and no later than 1 year from the date of this order.

If any individuals covered by this order remain in detention at Guantánamo at the time of closure of those detention facilities, they shall be returned to their home country, released, transferred to a third country, or transferred to another United States detention facility in a manner consistent with law and the national security and foreign policy interests of the United States.

Beck: “You don’t know the psychosis that is chickdom”

January 22, 2010

January 22, 2010

Arlen Specter: “I’ll treat you like a lady. So, act like one!”

I hate to even mention It’s name so I won’t. Listen to the video for his lovely feelings about chicks on a rant where he began by critiquing newly-elected Sen Brown for mentioning that his daughters were “available” during his victory speech. I didn’t find it as offensive as embarrassing for his daughters. It’s tirade on the other hand is disgusting. So disgusting that even Hardball might agree.

The Glenn Beck Program - The Fusion of Entertainment and Enlightenment

Seems he hasn’t reached either. And this is what he wants you to feel when you listen to him.

“I hope people feel goodness from my show and accept me for who I am, flaws and all.”

Ask yourself how good you feel after hearing his words. And if you read or know of  his life history, it becomes clear why he calls women “psychos” and why AA calls someone like him a “dry drunk”. How can anyone live around such hate? How can a father say such things on air with three daughters? And how is his son is going to treat women?

At the top of the show he seems to be interested in naked pictures of men…

IT: Has anybody seen the beautiful 1982 nude pictures of Scott Brown?

There’s nothing more luscious than a guy naked.

Did you see me naked in Cosmo?

The most disturbing aspect of this is he has three daughters.

IT: Exactly right. Okay. So you’ve got a question. Now again this is 1982 but you’ve got to question, what were you thinking? And then last night after the victory speech his family is up next to him and his daughters were there. Now, I have three daughters. So I have a little bit of experience of saying and doing the wrong thing with my every dad has done stupid things that you get home and your wife says, what the heck were you even thinking about? These are our daughters.

You cannot figure women out.

You can’t- you don’t know the psy-CHO-sis that is chickdom.

Guys you could figure out: food, sex. That’s it.

It really is. Feed me, make love to me, let me sleep.

We’re simple.

Women are psychos.

And then he crosses even one more line and predicts Sen Brown’s stay in Washington will result in a dead intern.

IT: And did you see me naked in Cosmo? Okay. Stop. Stop. Listen, listen, listen. Listen. I want to chastity belt on this man. I want his every move watched in Washington. I don’t trust this guy. I’m just telling ya.

This one could end up with a dead intern.

And what does he mean by this in reference to Brown?

I mean, do you know how it only takes one psycho. He’s on a national stage.

Maddow: Erroll Southers – barry made promise about TSA unionization

January 22, 2010

January 22, 2010

Today, Rachel Maddow’s sarcasm was focused on Erroll Southers’ detractors, as well as the dems for saying nothing when it was Southers’ who chose to quit (statement)…or did the WH make him as FDL’s Michael Whitney wrote “the White House had Southers withdrawn as the nominee”?

She then blames the Reps for not confirming him and links it to the diaper bomber but neglects to mention that it took over 8 months for barry to even nominate someone for TSA secretary. Why? Had someone been in place – especially someone with Southers’ background – he is asst chief of LAX airport security – the diaper bomber might not have ever been let on the plane.

She also neglected to mention that it took barry 8 months to nominate someone for US Customs and Border, which if I understand correctly, were the people who determined Abdulmutallab was on that TIDE list when the plane was in the air.

Had both agency heads been nominated in February and been in place for months, one would hope diaper bomber wouldn’t have had a chance. As well as however many muslim terrorists who gained entry to the US in that time period who haven’t yet (and hopefully never) committed their violent acts of cowardice.

Maddow shows Sen Lieberman reading off Southers’ qualifications and then mentions that his nomination was approved. And then skips to DeMint worrying about “unions,” which allegedly held up Southers’ confirmation. She neglects to mention that the day after he was approved, he wrote an affidavit saying he wasn’t exactly correct when he testified and that he had done 2 illegal background checks himself. That was Southers’ problem not anyone else’s.

Listening to him though, it’s hard to fathom why he didn’t come forward with it, since it was 20 years ago and he’s had no problems since and been effective at LAX, which has the largest airport security force in the US. It’s nothing compared with the actual sexual scandals folks have been involved in…like DC Madame Vitter.

Then a video clip of the only dem to mention Southers’ withdrawal – barry’s bud Sen Rockefeller, who called Southers “Strothers” and said it’s a “real shame”. Period. Proof the WH wanted him gone.

WH statement on Southers’ withdrawal.

Salahi’s take 5th, Desiree Rogers & 3rd crasher Carlos Allen not there

January 21, 2010

January 21, 2010

Updated below

Desiree Rogers won’t testify

The waste of time meant only to publicly shame crasher hearings….with only 2 of the 3 crashers and ZERO staff from the ever so transparent WH. The person responsible for the guest list, DESIREE ROGERS, was allowed to “decline” the committee’s “invitation” and just 2 of the 3 crashers, who got in because DESIREE ROGERS was partying instead of doing her job, were subpoenaed. And they responded by saying they would plead the Fifth.

So other than to shame – why were the Salahis forced to show up?

And the third party crasher CARLOS ALLEN?

Was CARLOS ALLEN invited or subpoenaed?

No idea.

Brian Williams clip of crashers taking the Fifth…31 times. Not all on video.

And here is a very fortuitous clip.

This angry person has to be one of those tolerant democrats we hear about. Indeed he is.

Rep BILL PASCRELL (D-NJ)

There may have been something wrong going on and maybe the WH made a mistake but they’re not here to plea the Fifth.

PRECISELY

I want to turn my attention away from you because I don’t believe that you have anything to offer this committee and it is my hope that [you] are prosecuted to the full extent of the law.

PRECISELY

So why are they there when the committee knew ahead of time they weren’t going to say anything?

This is a farce brought on by the chairman who didn’t even know DESIREE ROGERS name and said she had no responsibility because she’s just a party planner. Yes, Mr Chairman, the party planner responsible for the guest list the folks weren’t on, which is why they’re there.

And as soon as Rep Pascrell brings up the fact that there was another crasher by the name of CARLOS ALLEN, the chairman begins banging on his gavel to stop him from talking. And not surprisingly that’s when the live coverage of the hearing stops.

Why, when there were three crashers at the State Dinner, were only two required to show up?

Why the double standard?

Why was the black crasher – who could have just as easily done harm to POTUS – not required to appear?

No idea.

His was clearly a pre-meditated choice – after he failed to gain entry at two SS checkpoints [even though he maintained he had an invitation - which he couldn't produce], he went to the Willard Hotel and hitched a ride with the Indian delegation, And then he lied about even being there after being contacted by the Secret Service.

Why?

No idea.

Why was the WH not required to appear?

No idea.

DESIREE ROGERS was directly responsible for the Salahis and CARLOS ALLEN getting in. Had she been at the door with her list, checking people off as they passed, none of the three would have gotten in – unless of course she knew about them and looked the other way on purpose.

Did she?

No idea.

And what type of Secret Service review happened the first time around that the SS missed CARLOS ALLEN?

Was CARLOS ALLEN really “missed” or was the SS told not to mention him because he’s black like DESIREE ROGERS and the chairman?

Questions that would most definitely have been raised if the WH social secretary was white and the chairman was white and if the only crasher of the three required to appear was black and the two whiteys got off scot free.

Don’t pretend otherwise.

And whatever criminal punishment the Salahis get CARLOS ALLEN should get.

CARLOS ALLEN‘s already been spared the worst punishment: a public shaming.

The Salahis were flayed top to bottom and I would bet most folks are not even aware there was a third crasher and for sure don’t know his name: CARLOS ALLEN.

Here is CARLOS ALLEN on video surveillance as he takes a final look over his shoulder before he crashes the WH.

I heard his name – CARLOS ALLEN – and the fact that he is a party planner. That’s all. Found this account of a neighbor who said he used his house as a club. Imagine if the media looked into that.

Nothing about CARLOS ALLEN’s fiances, his background, whether he has a record, whether he has been involved in other scams, what his relationship is with his family or what he got out of crashing. And not only did he crash – he sat down and ate. He took someone’s seat…or was there a seat with his name on it?

No idea.

No idea because the media – who are protecting DESIREE ROGERS – have not ripped apart CARLOS ALLEN‘s background liek they did the Salahi’s. Nor did they demand CARLOS ALLEN or DESIREE ROGERS be at the hearing.

Why?

That answer is easy.

And what’s the chance CARLOS ALLEN doesn’t know the other party planners in the DC area?

Like the WH party planner DESIREE ROGERS or MAHOGANY JONES, the party planner/publicist/agent for the Salahis and PAUL W GARDNER, the Salahi’s first lawyer or even MICHELE S JONES?

Answer your question as to why he wasn’t there?

UPDATED

Found this at the Huffington Post:

Interviewed Monday on ABC’s “Good Morning America,” Allen said repeatedly: “I was invited. I actually got an invitation in the mail. I have the actual invite.” But the business executive acknowledged under questioning by anchor Robin Roberts that he couldn’t produce any piece of paper — including a table assignment card — with his name on it.

Allen said he’d gone to a nearby hotel where he ultimately hooked up with an Indian delegation after failing to gain admittance at either of two Secret Service-guarded gates at the Executive Mansion.

“It was cold. It was raining. I had a cough, I had a cold,” he said, adding that he found well-dressed people lined up in a lobby when he arrived at the Hotel Willard.

“I started seeing a lot of people in the hallway. As I was looking around, everyone was looking good,” he said. “They said, ‘It’s time to go to the White House.’ So I got in line with everybody else. I basically had my invite. … I went up to the Secret Service individual. He basically wanded me. He checked to make sure that I had nothing wrong … and I basically walked in.”

Allen explained that he removed a Web posting about the dinner because he was concerned about “a frenzy” surrounding the Salahis.

“Their faces were everywhere,” he said of the Salahis, ” and my focus was to do good things. … I didn’t want to embarrass anyone. I did not want to embarrass my president.

All white basketball league?

Yep. It’s the brainchild of Don “Moose” Lewis, who I imagine is white. Yes. See second video for photo of Lewis.

MOOSE: Would you want to go to the game and worry about a player flipping oyu off or attacking you in the stands or grabbing their crotch?

I don’t hate anyone of color. But people of white, American-born citizens [sic] are in the minority now. Here’s a league for white players to play fundamental basketball, which they like. People will come out and support a product they can identify with.

I’m the spoken minority now, but if people will give us a chance, it’ll work. The white game of basketball, which is essentially a fundamental game, works.

Erroll Southers’ response to Sen DeMint

Maddow: Erroll Southers (video)
Southers’ initial statement
Sen DeMint’s statement

FDL’s MICHAEL WHITNEY made an interesting comment:

This wasn’t Southers’ fault.  This was yet another failure of Barack Obama’s White House to stand up for its nominees….Instead, the White House had Southers withdrawn as the nominee, validating DeMint’s grandstanding again.

barry people are getting frustrated and barry doesn’t seem to be listening to them either.

He also provided a statement of Erroll Southers in response to Sen DeMint’s rather nasty statement yesterday. Not sure if the emphasis is his ot Southers’

ERROLL SOUTHERS:

While I have more than thirty years experience in the law enforcement and homeland security environment, my experience in navigating Washington is admittedly limited. I came prepared as a law enforcement professional to outline my vision for strengthening the Transportation Security Administration and doing my part of make the homeland safer, but perhaps I did not prepare enough to address politically charged issues such as unionization.

I understand that Senator DeMint has serious concerns about any effort to unionize the TSA workforce – and I respect that and tried unsuccessfully to meet with him about that – but ultimately that policy decision would have been made at levels in the Administration above me. I went into the hearings with an open mind about the union question with the intention of assessing its potential positive or negative impact after I addressed more pressing issues – primarily security vulnerabilities that exist in our aviation and transportation security.

I am disappointed to have to withdraw my nomination, particularly in light of the aviation vulnerabilities that were apparent after the Christmas terror incident and at a time when TSA needs leadership more than ever.

Southers’ & WH statement
Southers’ response to DeMint

Sen Jim DeMint (R-SC) statement re: TSA nominee Erroll Southers’ withdrawal for TSA Secretary [emphasis added]:

Americans deserve a leader at TSA with integrity and with an unwavering commitment to putting security ahead of politics. The White House never responded to requests for more information relating to Mr. Southers false testimony to Congress and his censure by the FBI for improperly accessing files.

And Mr. Southers was never forthcoming about his intentions to give union bosses veto power over security decisions at our airports. TSA screeners can already join unions, but collective bargaining would force TSA officials to ask union bosses for permission to make critical security changes.

The Senate could have had an open and transparent debate this week to approve Mr. Southers, but apparently, answering simple, direct questions about security and integrity were too much for this nominee.

I hope the President will quickly put forward a new nominee that is fully vetted and that will put the safety of the American people first.

TSA nominee Erroll Southers quits

Maddow: Erroll Southers (video)
Sen DeMint statement
Southers’ response to DeMint

TSA nominee Erroll Southers has quit. He blames it on “them”. Sounds like he got it from the same template as Commie Van Jones. Nominally he quit because of the hold up of his confirmation, which hinged on his integrity (illegal background checks on his estranged wife’s boyfriend – submitted after his nomination was approved) and the issue od collective bargaining for TSA officials.

But it might have a little to do with the video that surfaced of Southers talking about the need to profile whiteys who are anti-abortion and are Christian identity oriented. Something I haven’t seen mentioned.

ERROLL SOUTHERS statement:

I was extremely excited about the opportunity to lead the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) and fulfill Secretary [Janet] Napolitano’s objective to develop it into the best organization of its kind in the world. However, it is apparent that this path has been obstructed by political ideology.

I have decided, after deep reflection and in consultation with my family and friends to respectfully withdraw my name from consideration for confirmation as the assistant secretary for the TSA.

It is clear that my nomination has become a lightning rod for those who have chosen to push a political agenda at the risk of the safety and security of the American people. This partisan climate is unacceptable and I refuse to allow myself to remain part of their dialogue.

The TSA has important work to be done and I regret I will not be part of their success.

WH Nick Shapiro :

The President believes that Erroll Southers would have been an excellent TSA administrator but understands his personal decision and the choice he has made. Southers was uniquely qualified for this job and it is with great sadness that the president accepted Southers’ withdrawal. Fortunately the acting TSA Administrator is very able and we have a solid team of professionals at TSA doing vital national security work to keep us safe.

And here we are a year into barry’s term and almost a month after diaper bomber and no TSA head. Recall it took barry 8 months to name Southers.

The Adulterer vs Jay

January 21, 2010

January 21, 2010

DAVID LETTERMAN:

So, last night Jay gave his state of the network speech and he said, ‘We should not blame Conan for what’s going on”.

And I said to myself, ‘No one is blaming Conan’.

And the question is why. Start with professional jealousy.

And then, like a bitter bitter 3rd grader, he mocked Jay Leno’s speech and continued on.

JAY LENO:

Letterman’s been hammering me every night.

Hey Kev, know the best way to get Letterman to ignore you?

What’s that?

Marry him.

CoCo the $100M astounding failure takes his money and quits

Coco: $32.5M

Employees: $7.5

Free to work come Sept 1 though NBC could deduct he would make with a new network from the $32.5 million.

Plenty of time to write something other than 6 grade jokes

Agreed to a “short” period of time in which he can’t give media interviews or continue to trash NBC publicly.

NBC agreed to media blackout.

He cost them more than that – his new studio complex cost $50M and with the promos for his show he’s the $100M astounding Tonight Show failure. But not as much a it would have for NBC to buy put Leno ($150M).

Joint statement from NBC and Coco:

NBC and Conan O’Brien have reached a resolution of the issues surrounding O’Brien’s contract to host ‘The Tonight Show with Conan O’Brien.

Under terms of an agreement that was signed earlier today, NBC and O’Brien will settle their contractual obligations and the network will release O’Brien from his contract, freeing him to pursue other opportunities after September 1, 2010.

Jeff Gaspin, Chairman, NBC Universal Television Entertainment.

We’re pleased that Jay is returning to host the franchise that he helmed brilliantly and successfully for many years. He is an enormous talent, a consummate professional and one of the hardest-working performers on television.

The origin of Coco’s name, which he clearly hates and yet his “fans” keep calling him by it.

Don’t call me CoCo!!

barry: “too busy” to listen to The American People

January 21, 2010

January 21, 2010

barry told Stephanopoulos that he was

too busy getting stuff done and dealing with the immediate crises that were in front of us that we lost that sense of speaking directly to The American People about what their core goals are.

Uhm. What?

What else did he do besides talk?

When he was faced with making a decision – he gave a speech or went on the talk shows or flew across country to townhalls to take puff questions.

He admitted that he was “too busy getting stuff done” for the real people who put him into office: banks. Hasn’t quite come through for Big Pharma except for declaring a state of emergency for the manmade H1N1 pandemic. And not only didn’t he listen, he continued to blather at The American People so they would continue to support his agenda. And they did – until a year passed with no job creation, 10% unemployment and the exponential rise in the deficit to $13 trillion. All the while the big banks barry assisted were making gazillions with The American People’s money both as taxpayers and as consumers, which they then used to reward the people, who got them into trouble in the first place, with massively obscene bonuses.

This is not a newsflash.

And what kind of president is so clueless about governing that he says out loud that he wasn’t listening to The American People because he was” too busy”?

And what was he doing that made him “too busy” to the American People?

Date night, vacations in Yellowstone, Martha’s Vineyard and Hawaii, White House parties, fundraisers, Copenhagen for Olympics…

And thanks to CBS (through MSNBC) – we have a tabulated accounting:

Speeches, comments & remarks 411
News conferences 42
Interviews 158
Townhall meetings 23
————–
TOTAL = 645

And with all that – how many press conferences did he have where he had to answer questions – even ones he knew were coming?

And how much did it cost The American People for him to fly everywhere – including to fundraisers?

Amy MacDonald: Ms Boyle doesn’t deserve Brit award

Piersy baby is sticking by Susan Boyle. He is none too happy she was snubbed by the BRIT Awards, which includes a category for International breakthrough artist. Know anyone who sold 8M records worldwide in 2009?

PIERS MORGAN

The idea that we cannot find room in the Brits for Susan Boyle is absolutely ridiculous. I’ve been invited to the Brits and I can’t wait to go there and hear all these acts that are apparently better than Susan. Most of them are a bunch of lip-syncing, useless no-hopers.

If you didn’t see – Ms Boyle did her “Piersy Baby” swivel on Oprah. (video)

Cindy & Meghan McCain speak out in favor of gay marriage

January 21, 2010

January 21, 2010

States allowing civil unions/same-sex-marriage/domestic partnerships

Cindy and Meghan McCain have make a stand. They have come out in favor of gay marriage – something Sen McCain is not in favor of.

(Adam Bouska/noh8campaign.com)

NoH8 campaign website:

The McCains are one of the most well-known Republican families in recent history, and for Mrs. McCain to have reached out to us to offer her support truly means a lot. Aligning yourself with the platform of gay marriage as a Republican still tends to be very stigmatic, but Cindy McCain wanted to participate in the campaign to show people that party doesn’t matter – marriage equality isn’t a Republican issue any more than it is a Democratic issue.

3

Odd upon odd. Meghan McCain has spoken out previously in favor of gay marriage. In February, she was slated to deliver the keynote address at George Washington University during “Marriage Equality Week” with the theme: “Redefining Republican: No Labels, No Boxes, No Stereotypes.”

Not anymore. The GW College Republicans withdrew their financial support of her appearance after seeing her Twitter account.

GWRepublicans website:

The GW College Republicans will not be co-sponsoring Meghan McCain’s visit to GW to deliver the keynote address during “Marriage Equality Week.” Our executive board was originally told by Allied in Pride that Meghan McCain’s primary focus would be her opinion on what it means to be a Republican. But having later discovered through Ms. McCain’s twitter, and subsequent conversations that her remarks would be framed around “Marriage Equality Week,” information that Allied in Pride’s president, Michael Komo, withheld from our board, we have since retracted our support for the event.

Her honorarium was going to be $10K! The GWCR pledged a whopping $100 as well as advertising her appearance.

Ms. McCain’s views on marriage equality align with neither the Republican Party nor her father’s personal stance. Though we fully supported John McCain’s candidacy for President, we feel that Meghan McCain’s last name is not near as important as the message she advocates. Moreover, we offer our best wishes to Ms. McCain, and Allied’s members for a successful event.

So can’t she show up without getting paid?
