British artist Willard Wigan is a genius, even though he says he cannot read or write due to severe dyslexia. Early on he was taunted in school and by teachers so he withdrew into his microworld. He started out building houses for ants and then went on to make them shoes and hats and now makes sculptures that can fit inside the eye of the needle. What he is capable of defies physiology. He can only work at night because of the quiet and has learned to control his heart rate and work between pulses. He also has to control his breathing so that the piece he is working on isn’t inhaled or lost into the air. He uses dust motes and carpet fibers and uses the hair of a fly to paint his sculptures. Imagine working on something so small it can fit on a head of a pin and cannot be seen with the naked eye. Something so small he has to slice a grain of sand.
Here’s a video that shows some of his work. Other videos here and pix here. You will never see anything like it. His work has been referred to as the Eight Wonder of the World.
