Oil Spill posts

Never expected this. 12 countries are offering assistance TO the US.

CNN’s Charles Keyes:

The State Department refused Tuesday to provide details of what countries had offered assistance with the oil spill off the Louisiana coast.

State Department spokesman P.J. Crowley said 12 countries and international organizations had offered assistance but would not provide details.

“One more time. Do we know who the 12 are? We do,” Crowley said at his afternoon briefing. “Are we going to announce them publicly? We’re not.”

Why the intrigue?

Who really is responsible for the oil leak?

LT arrested, LT charged, lawyer speaks (video)

Larry King talked about Lawrence Taylor’s arrest with Mark Geragos an Robin Sax, the former prosecuting attorney for the Child Sexual Assault Division of the L.A. County Sex Crimes Unit.

In NY, a 16 y/o cannot consent to sex – but these folks have no problem calling a 16 y/o a “prostitute”.

Also scheduled to appear was Lawrence Taylor’s wife but she canceled.

LARRY KING:

Now, his wife was booked to appear on this show. Lynette Taylor called us just 25 minutes ago. She told me that she has complete faith in her husband, that she loves her husband and that she believes he was setup, that this was all a plot to kind of nab him by an enemy. She didn’t go into detail. She said she was going to go into detail on this program tonight. Unfortunately, 25 minutes ago, she canceled.

Update Lawrence Taylor arrest: charges, lawyer on video

May 6, 2010

May 6, 2010

updated

The video MSNBC provided was censored. I’ll have to find an uninterrupted copy of the press connference. Mark Geragos was on Larry King (video/text) and they showed a clip of Taylor’s lawyer.

ARTHUR AIDALA:

Lawrence Taylor did not have consensual sex with anybody last night.

He is charged with rape. Lawrence Taylor did not rape anybody.

My client did not have sex with anybody. No. Period. Amen.

So his lawyer is saying no sexual contact took place at all.

Original post with intial police statement HERE.

Source: AP’s JIM FITZGERALD via MSNBC.

Clarification for folks like Ms Whoopi Goldberg who think not all rape is “rape rape” .

NOTE: I am not saying Mr Taylor has done anything wrong. Only 3 named people know that for sure. My response is to the language and tone used by Taylor’s lawyer and the actual charges themselves. Haven’t found court papers.

Allegation: LT paid $300 to a man to have sex with a 16 y/o girl, who happened to be a runaway.

Allegation: the man who “provided” the girl beat her up just previous to “delivering” her.

Scroll down for formal charges.

Lawrence Taylor’s lawyer, ARTHUR AIDALA, did not help matters by referring to “the pained look” on his client’s face when folks are wondering what the 16 y/o girl’s face and body looks like.

And what’s with shifty guy in the shades standing behind him? The two of them looked like they were representing the Gambino family.

A quiet straight into the camera unemotional denial by a modestly dressed petite woman of the same race as the 16 y/o girl is what should have happened.

And even if LT  is 100% innocent, which he is presumed to be, his lawyer should have made an acknowledgment of the heinousness of the allegation – not proclaim his “client didn’t assault anybody”.

The charge is RAPE.

By definition, rape is a sexual assault, which by definition is a physical assault- no matter the degree, charge or punishment.

[Hand transcribed]

ARTHUR AIDALA (AA):

Today, obviously, It was a very difficult, difficult day for Lawrence. Anyone who could see the pained look on his face when he was in that courtroom could verify that.

Mr Taylor is denying and preparing to fight each and every one of these charges.

What does his rocking, clasped hands and bowed head say to you?

AA: It’s very interesting how the story started off this morning that he was – that he physically assaulted somebody. And the record has been cleared that Lawrence Taylor didn’t assault anybody.

Rape is an assault. He couldn’t have been “cleared” of assault if he was charged with rape.

And not just “anybody” was assaulted. His client is accused of raping an underage girl, whether he knew he knew she was or not.

Inaccurate:

AA: And the record should be very clear as to what the charges are.

The charges are that there was a consensual sexual act that took place here.

TAYLOR was charged with:

1-THIRD DEGREE RAPE

2-PATRONIZING A PROSTITUTE.

In New York, the age of consent is 17. In the law’s eyes, a 16 y/o is not capable of consent. Charges are then adjudged as to the respective ages of the rapist/rapee, which is why he was charged with third degree rape.

Sex with a person under 17 is a Class “E” felony if the perpetrator is at least 21. (“Rape in the third degree,” NY Penal Law § 130.25;)

Perfectly suited to a Nancy Grace sound bite.

AA: There’s no violence. There’s no force. There’s no threats. There’s no weapons.

First impressions cannot be overcome. Especially one made by a how dare you accuse my client screecher who sounds like he thinks all women and girls cry rape and all rapes have to involve threats and/or weapons.

Not many women are going to characterize “sex” between a physically imposing married 51 y/o ex-linebacker and a 16 y/o runaway who was beaten just prior to being transacted for – as “consensual”?

And Mr Lawyer?

A penis is a weapon.

AA: You heard previously that Mr Taylor was very cooperative. He has been cooperative throughout this whole process. That does not mean he’s not devastated.

How many folks are concerned about his devastation vs that of the 16 y/o girl who was forced into prostitution and now has to face the media because her alleged rapist is a famous athlete with a lengthy past?

Will the DA investigate why things were so bad at home the girl had to run away?

As for cooperation, if he is indeed innocent, he should be nothing but cooperative and he should be standing still looking into the camera so folks can verify his “pained look”.

And then LT’s history of drug abuse. His own lawyer voluntarily introduced something that might have been potentially inadmissible in court and something potential jurors might not have even known about.

AA: He has not touched any drugs in over a dozen years!

He’s clean! clean! clean!

That life is over!

That’s the old Lawrence Taylor!

This is the new Lawrence Taylor!

How is being accused of adultery via rape of a child forced into prostitution “new” and improved and preferable to drug addiction?

And if it’s discovered LT was not being honest about not using drugs?

And of course the inevitable mention of a wife who had nothing to do with anything.

AA: All he wants to do is to get back to FLAHR-i-dah, be with his wife, have myself and his legal team fight this—-put this episode behind him as well.

As well?

The very first thing LT should do when he gets back to Flahrida is hire a new attorney and media person.

Bail: $75K.

TAYLOR’s reported comment to the press:

I’m not that important.

And the 16 y/o girl?

There should be aggravating circumstances for allegedly raping a freshly beaten underage child who was reported missing in March and was allegedly living with held captive for the last 2 weeks by bus stop troller for runaways, 36 y/o parolee RASHEED DAVIS.

On parole for?

First-degree manslaughter.

Sentenced 8-25 yrs in April 1994. Paroled March 2008.

DAVIS charges:

1-UNLAWFUL IMPRISONMENT

2-ASSAULT

3-ENDANGERING THE WELFARE OF A CHILD

According to MSNBC:

Early Thursday morning, Davis punched and kicked her, drove her to the hotel against her will and told her she had to have sex with Taylor, police said. When she refused, Davis handed her over to Taylor, who sexually assaulted her, they said. Taylor paid her $300, which she gave to Davis, police said.

How did she get free?

On the way to Suffern, the girl sent text messages to her uncle spelling out what was happening, Browne said. The uncle then went to the NYPD, he said.

What needs explaining is whether LT was familiar with DAVIS prior to last evening.

A man who has had multiple experiences with the Justice System should be able to spot a “pimp” and a newly-enslaved child.

And he most definitely should be able to recognize the eyes of a man convicted and imprisoned for first degree manslaughter of another human being.

Something that can never be explained away.

NEWSWEEK for sale

May 6, 2010

May 6, 2010

Karma?

The Washington Post Co has decided to put the #1 barrypropaganda newsletter NEWSWEEK up for sale.

Why?

Because Jon Meacham and Evan Thomas, along with the entire team of barry sycophants, including Howie Fineman and JonJon Alter, have made them the laughingstock of “journalism”. Evan Thomas actually believes barry “is God”.

Since barry came on scene, NEWSWEEK’s:

2008 operating loss = $16.1M
2009 operating loss – $29.3M

Quotes from article at the Daily Intel by CHRIS ROVZAR. [emphasis added]

MEACHAM: The editorial approach that we’ve taken is not simply on a whim of mine. It’s a concerted attempt to take serious-minded individuals seriously. You can argue that, and it may not work, but there’s no doubt in my mind that I would rather fight on that ground than any other.

It’s clear to serious-minded folks that Newsweek took no one seriously other than barry.

Were you aware Newsweek has a re-launch last May?

And what do NEWSWEEK employees think of MEACHAM?

But virtually 100 percent of the employees under 40″ believe that Meacham is hurting the magazine, says one such print staffer. “For a journalist, he is bizarrely incurious about the world,” this source continues, complaining that Meacham’s “interests extend to history, politics, and … well, that’s about it.” Younger workers believe that Meacham listens to few people outside of his inner circle and gripe about the obsession with historical figures and staid stories. “There was a focus group recently, and one of their comments was that the magazine feels like homework,” said the source. “I’ll say this: Jon Meacham is bad for Newsweek.

Are their views a mystery to management?

In fact, in parts of the magazine, one senior staffer says, “morale couldn’t be worse. People are openly looking for jobs on their computers, visible to their colleagues and bosses.”

Phoenix Suns = “Los Suns”

Happy Cinco de Mayo from the Phoenix Suns. To protest the new AZ immigration law, they became “Los Suns”.

Grant Hill, Steve Nash

NBA Players Association:

We applaud the actions of Phoenix Suns players and management and join them in taking a stand against the misguided efforts of Arizona lawmakers. We are consulting with our members and our player leadership to determine the most effective way for our union to continue to voice our opposition to this legislation.

One would think they would have a few far bigger issues on their hands.

And baseball?

Protesters greeted the AZ Diamondbacks when they came to Wrigley.

Rev Jose Landaverde of Our Lady of Guadalupe Anglican Catholic Mission

Protest at Wrigley
(Lane Christiansen, Chicago Tribune / April 29, 2010)

And there are calls for MLB to move the 2011 All-Star Game from Phoenix.

Folks seem to be missing the point that it will be Arizona citizens – not legislators – who will be hurt by boycotts.

Sports and politics should not mix….especially in a state where the majority of residents (64%) favor the bill being protested.

2008 election
Top recipient of BP-related funds = barry
Amount $71,000

POLITICO:

During his time in the Senate and while running for president, Obama received a total of $77,051 from the oil giant and is the top recipient of BP PAC and individual money over the past 20 years, according to financial disclosure records.

British Petroleum HQ’d in London.

And what was barry ragging at the Supreme Court for?

Foreign corporations contributing to campaigns?

BEN LABOLT – the man charged with getting rid of unclean campaign cash…after it’s been discovered by the press:

This claim lacks one thing: credibility. President Obama didn’t accept a dime from corporate PACs or federal lobbyists during his presidential campaign. He raised $750 million from nearly 4 million Americans. And since he became President, he rolled back tax breaks and giveaways for the oil and gas industry, spearheaded a G20 agreement to phase out fossil fuel subsidies, and made the largest investment in American history in clean energy incentives.

Who actually believes that claim after it has been proven a lie?

And note how “federal” was added to lobbyists. Axelrod is a lobbyist and he worked out of his lobbyist office while he ran barry’s campaign. He has since opened an office in Washington.

How long before someone demands the names and amounts of money that barry has had to give back?

In 2009, individuals and PACs associated with BP donated $16K to members of the House Energy and Commerce Committe.

John Dingell (D-MI) $31K
Joe Barton (R-TX)

Anderson Cooper wonders what the barry administration was doing the first few days of the oil spill.

While everyone outside the barry administration wonders what Anderson Cooper was doing.

It’s fascinating how Cooper, like Herr Olbermann, who tries to portray encyclopedic knowledge of all things barry, have complete amnesia when it comes to barry’s most recent stance on offshore driling.

As usual, all problems lead back to President Bush.

COOPER: Want to bring you up to date on the Gulf oil spill and what we have discovered about the failure of government oversight over the years.

They don’t seem to realize that every time they use the argument that it’s Bush’s fault, they highlight how little barry has done to correct anything. I mean to CHANGE! things.

Investigative journalism:

AC: We’re talking about 210,000 gallons still pouring out every single day. Now, crews today managed a pair of what they call controlled burns, lighting off oil patches near the ruptured wellhead.

We don’t have any pictures of it.

NASA and Google Earth had plenty of photos for CNN and the WH to look at on their Blackberries.

Then he talks with Rice University presidential historian Douglas Brinkley about Michael Brown’s comments on FOX about barry wanting the oil spill to spread so offshore drilling will be shut down…even though barry just weeks ago said he was for it…and the familiar words – bizarre, crazy, conspiracy theory – surface like they always do when somone invokes free speech re: our Dear Leader!

AC: It’s — it’s bizarre and kind of stunning that he — it’s kind of just — I don’t know if crazy is the right word, but, I mean, what do you make of this?

BRINKLEY: Well, Michael Brown was the worst director in FEMA’s relatively short history. But he did an abysmal job handling the Katrina situation. Even the Bush administration later recognized it, Michael Chertoff, head of Homeland Security, canning him. I think he’s a very wounded person, has had some psychological damage from being the pinata of the press back in 2005, and is trying to surface during this particular offshore drilling crisis and offer some kind of conspiratorial theory about President Obama. It wasn’t helpful. It wasn’t smart. And I think we have probably seen the last of him on the TV circuit for a little while.

What can one say about a man who actually believes this?

AC: You know, we really try on this show not to take sides, Republican or Democrat, conservative or liberal, just trying to get facts out there.

And where was CNN?

AC: To me, what we don’t know about the Obama administration’s response to this is, what sort of oversight in the early days — you know, they — the Obama administration is basically saying, look, we relied on BP when they said they sort of had this thing under control, that — that it — the leak wasn’t as good — as big as we later learned it was. It wasn’t until a week or eight days later that, you know, NOAA did overflights and actually saw and figured out, OK, this is actually five times worse than we think it is.

And how many days has it been since that?

AC: We don’t know, it seems to me, at this point what oversight, if any, they had over BP in those early days.

Why not then and why not now?

Though the Coast Guard was on the scene, you know, we don’t know — I don’t know, at least, what level the EPA was overseeing BP? Do you know that?

BRINKLEY:

Yes, to a degree, I know it.

I mean, what’s — what’s occurred, really, is that, I think, because this is such a politicized atmosphere right now, people have to understand, President Obama has been for offshore drilling. He was for it in the 2008 campaign. Just a month or weeks before the BP oil spill, he was encouraging more oil exploration and — and possibly offshore drilling in places like Virginia, and Florida, Alaska.

barry was just being a “bit lax”.

In addition to that, as your earlier report on MMS show, they were being lax, turning a bit of blind eye at MMS and letting companies like BP not have the rigid environmental standards that the National Environmental Policy Act demanded.

Nothing that happens is barry’s fault:

BRINKLEY: Now, a different question is, could the Obama administration have done something?

No.

This is British Petroleum’s oil spill

And what is barry’s answer to every crisis that has happens on his watch?

But what you’re going to have happen out of this is much tighter looking at — not stopping of offshore drilling in the Gulf, but you’re going to have tougher enforcement.

And political expedience will lead the way.

You’re going to have a new MMS that actually does its job. And I think President Obama has got some big political choices. One is, Shell Oil is looking this July to drill off of ANWR in Alaska. It’s very controversial. He has the Outer Continental Shelf Act on his side to stop Shell from doing that and, once and for all, save the Arctic refuge. So you’re going to keep your eye on Shell in Alaska in the coming weeks?

Who does Cooper expect to do the job?

COOPER: I — I mean, I’m still curious to learn who they had on- site in those early days of the spill, you know, watching and monitoring what BP was telling them. That — to me, that will be an interesting thing to see.

BRINKLEY: It’s going to — it’s going to be interesting. But people have to realize, the Gulf of Mexico, it is all sorts of — it’s an industrial zone. And people are drilling all the time, and a lot of offshore oil drilling is done safely.

Humor:

BRINKLEY: Where I think the Obama administration is facing a problem is going to be on its left. Environmentalists saying, “Why weren’t you more strictly enforcing the national Environmental Policy Act?”

And the rest of the folks on the left that he’s disappointed: Women, seniors, LGBT, blacks, peaceniks, unions, independents and barrymedia?

When are they going to get together and admit they have no idea who barry is?

India blamed Pakistan’s al Qaeda-linked terror group LASHKAR-e-TAYYIBA, which was “banned” from Pakistan in 2002 after an attack on the Indian Goverment.

“Banning” terrorists says:

1-Pakistan is aware of the terrorists/terror groups in Pakistan.

2-Pakistan finds some groups of terrorists/acts of terrorism acceptable.

3-Pakistan can do something about it.

So why haven’t they?

And why hasn’t the MSM brought up the possibility of a connection?

Why are airlines being given the option of adding someone to their lists? And where’s the assurity that the memo was even seen by the airlines?

So, as of right now, it’s up to the airlines whether someone flies – not the TSA. And then the hope that Customs agents don’t miss a (misspelled) name on the flight manifest.
