What has the world come to that a woman has to place a device inside herself in an effort to ward off rape?
Something that works only if the rapist doesn’t know it’s there, doesn’t remove it, and doesn’t move on to other orifices. Or younger girls.
And even if it is in place and does its “job” the rape still will have happened.
The mere fact it exists signals an acceptance of rape as inevitable.
South African Dr Sonnet Ehlers has invented a female condom, Rape-aXe, with spikes to stick to the rapist’s penis upon vaginal penetration. Once stuck, it has to be removed by a doctor.
Kinda like backing up over those tire tread rippers.
Dr Ehlers distributed 30K free condoms in South African cities hosting the World Cup soccer matches as a test of sorts. She should be talking to the US Army.
So what will be the results?
A decrease in the incidence of rape? An increase in the identification/prosecution of rapists?
Or will it lead to an increase in the number of foreign body assaults, anal assualts, assaults on younger girls and escalate the level of violence accompanying them?
It certainly will worsen the blame and guilt heaped on the rapee – as in why wasn’t she wearing one if she didn’t want to be raped.
And in the end, rape is not just about vaginal penetration. It is about power and domination and rage and hate and none of that will be thwarted by a female condom…with or without spikes.
