Lei Lei, like this unnamed 41lb 8 month-old, had a normal birth weight of 7lbs 11oz. The 41-pounder weighed 7lbs 4oz at birth and then his mother proceeded to breastfeed him 20 times/day, which may have explained his enormous size. I don’t know what Lei Lei’s mother, Cheng Qingyu, has been feeding him but he is being evaluated at a hospital for a possible medical explanation for his size – such as Prader-Willi syndrome where the afflicted has no feeling of satiety and will eat until their stomach explodes if allowed.
Zeitgeist
Then there’s Indonesian baby Akbar who weighed 19.2lb at birth. His size was explained by his mother’s gestational diabetes. His father also appeared to have characteristics of gigantism in which the pituitary oversecretes growth hormone.
And the very sad case of the 158lb 5 y/o and 89lb 4 y/o who were recently removed from their home and their parents arrested.
