More proof of TIME’s bias and devotion to islamophobia propaganda.
2010 TIME’s People Who Mattered:
Feisal Abdul Rauf
Muslim-American Leader
[all emphasis added]
Lows: Imam Rauf was demonized by those on the right who believed he was building a mosque on sacred ground just two blocks from the World Trade Center site.
That is exactly what he is doing.
TIME’s own poll in August showed it’s more than Conservatives who don’t want the mosque there. Only 26% supported it and more than 70% saw it as an insult to the 9-11 victims.
Conservatives cherry-picked quotes that they falsely claimed demonstrated the imam’s praise of the kind of Islamic extremists that attacked the U.S. on Sept. 11.
The video and transcript of the interview are available for all to see. Nothing was cherry-picked (same language they used about Jeremiah Wright). During his interview with Soledad O’Brien, Rauf himself winced when the clip was shown. He said what he said. He blamed the US.
For this TIME should be put out of business.
He and his wife both received death threats, and the controversy triggered a nationwide conversation about the limits of religious tolerance in the United States and whether Islamophobia was on the rise. The debate also put the spotlight on Pastor Terry Jones, who threatened to hold an “International Burn a Koran Day” that was, in part, a response to the proposed Islamic Center in lower Manhattan.
It’s a mosque – not an Islamic center.
No proof of death threats released. Allegedly phone threats. Could find no arrests. Jeremiah Wright claimed the same thing.
The issue is not about religious tolerance or freedom of religion or freedom to worship where one chooses. It is about the true intention of the mosquites and the extreme lack of insensitivity shown.
And the pastor, who has a long history of antipathy towards Islam, provided no doubt about it proof of the media’s islamophobia propaganda. Curious how there was no mention of how many death threats the Pastor received or how he was banned from the UK.
TIME’s own Is America Islamophobic issue, where they desecrated the ultimate symbol of freedom with a ultimate sign of women’s oppression, proved their own question to be unfounded. But you’d never know it reading the crap above.
