Cubs GM Jim Hendry re: Ron Santo
December 4, 2010Dec 3, 2010
Ron Santo was one of the finest men — and toughest men — I’ve ever known.
He was a credit to the game and a model of what a person should be like, always giving back to others his entire life. For the last 10 years, I had the pleasure of sitting across the aisle from Ronny during all of our trips on the road. We talked a lot of baseball, and his passion for the game was obvious to anybody who knew him. Nobody enjoyed our wins more than Ron Santo. Nobody took the losses harder than Ronny.

Cubs Legend Ron Santo has died from complications of bladder cancer and diabetes. He was 70.
Hard to grasp.
Especially hearing Pat talk LIVE about Ronnie on WGN now.

(R) One of the many tributes left on the bricks.
Ronnie started with the Cubs in 1960.
And survived another 50 years as a Cubfan – every bit of it etched on his face.
Without being rightfully inducted into the Hall of Fame.
When asked why he was signing up for more misery in 2009:
RONNIE: What else am I going to do? Doing the Cubs games is like therapy for me. It’s relaxing. I’m going on my 21st year, and I feel I can keep it up for a while. I don’t know what I would do without the Cubs. I’d probably go crazy.
