Laetare Medal: “Magna est veritas et praevalebit” (Truth is mighty and will prevail)

laetaremedal.jpg

Notre Dame’s Laetare Medal is considered the oldest and most prestigious award for American Catholics and is awarded to men and women “whose genius has ennobled the arts and sciences, illustrated the ideals of the Church, and enriched the heritage of humanity.”

It was to be awarded to former Bush administration Ambassador to the Vatican and Harvard Law School Professor Mary Ann Glendon, who was forced to decline because ND is awarding an honorary degree to pro-abortionist barry and because they were using her invitation as a justification for his.

Prof Glendon in her letter to Fr Jenkins:

Award[ing] the president and honorary degree [is] in disregard of the U.S. Bishops’ express request of 2004 that Catholic institutions “should not honor those who act in defiance of our fundamental moral principles” and that such persons “should not be given awards, honors or platforms which would suggest support for their actions.

She had been notified of the prestigious honor in December 2008 and sent a thank you letter to Fr Jenkins. Unbeknownst to her, Fr Jenkins, in March, extended an invitation to the President, who of course accepted. Besides being wrong – it was rude.

Fr Jenkins had said in his initial statement that another recipient would be found. But in a later statement changed his mind:

We have decided, upon reflection, to not award the medal this year.

And that:

Judge John T. Noonan Jr., the 1984 recipient of the Laetare Medal, will reflect on the spirit of the Laetare during the May 17 University Commencement Ceremony.

Previous recipients include: John F Kennedy, Sargent Shriver, Tip O’Neill, Eunice Kennedy Shriver, Cardinal Joseph Bernardin, Dave Brubeck and Martin Sheen (last year).

So, for the first time in its 126 years, the Laetare Medal will not be awarded solely to accommodate barry. Had barry agreed to give a commencement address and not accept the honorary doctor of laws degree.degree – Professor Glendon would have been able to receive her honor. He chose his own ego over someone who was invited 4 months before him.

An award that ASU – a non-Catholic university – said he was non-deserving of was given to him by a Catholic University when his stand is as extreme as one can get on abortion and he has vowed never to let it become illegal. He was chosen for the main reason that it is the anniversary of Brown vs the Board of Education to go with the other anniversaries and recreations he has done.

Fr Jenkins: No Laetare Medal awarded this year

Fr Weslin/Fr Jenkins/Notre Dame posts

April 30, 2009

Fr Jenkins initially said that he would find a replacement for Professor Mary Ann Glendon who could not in good conscience accept the Laetare Medal. He has now decided that will not be awarded this year and a previous recipient will speak instead. Breaking a year tradition dating back to 1883 for as radical a pro-abortionist as you can get.

Fr JOHN JENKINS:

In thinking about who could bring a compelling voice, a passion for dialogue, great intellectual stature, and a deep commitment to Catholic values to the speaking role of the Laetare Medalist – especially in these unusual circumstances – it quickly became clear that an ideal choice is Judge Noonan.

This commencement ceremony, more than anything else, is a celebration of our students and their families.

Judge Noonan will join with President Obama and other speakers in that celebration, sending them from our campus and into the world with sound advice and affirmation.

Since Judge Noonan is a previous winner of the Laetare Medal, we have decided, upon reflection, to not award the medal this year.

Joe Bidengaffer: “I wouldn’t go anywhere in confined places now”

April 30, 2009

Same post as I posted several hours ago. I don’t know what happens to them. 6 disappeared yesterday. One is gone completely today.

April 30, 2009

H1N1 posts

VP Joe Biden is back and it’s for the same thing as always: his mouth. On the Today Show, Matt Lauer asked whether he would advise his own family against flying to Mexico and Biden answered as expected:

matrixxx123456789

BIDEN: I would tell members of my family — and I have —I wouldn’t go anywhere in confined places now. It’s not just going into Mexico. If you’re any place in a confined aircraft, and one person sneezes, it goes all the way through the aircraft. That’s me. I would not be at this point – if they had another way of transportation – suggesting they ride the subway.

109 cases 11 states. More states reported. Patient Zero found in Mexico – 5 y/o boy alive and well.

Here are the responses to Biden’s statements.

Within 2 hours they had a statement out from the VP’s office about Biden’s comment. Compare that to the 6 hours for Gibbs to say he knew nothing about the dive bombing of NYC by Air Force One. 7 hours for Louis Caldera to release an apology and over 24 hours for barry to say 24 words with not a word addressed to the traumatized New Yorkers/Jerseyans.

This is conclusive proof they knew exactly what was going on with the “mission” and stalled for as long as they could to gauge the fallout. They were saved by Arlen Specter and the H1N1 flu.

BIDEN SPOKESWOMAN:

On the Today Show this morning, the Vice President was asked what he would tell a family member. That advice he’s giving family members is the same advice the administration is giving to all Americans.

They should avoid all unnecessary air travel to and from Mexico. If they are sick they should avoid airplanes and other confined spaces.

Acting head of the CDC, DR RICHARD BESSER:

There’s no one action that’s going to stop this, there’s no silver bullet.

CDC’s DR ANNE SHUCHAT:

This is a time when we don’t want the worried well flooding the emergency rooms. At no time in our nation’s history have we been more prepared to face this kind of challenge.

If you’re ill, you shouldn’t get on an airplane or any public transport to travel. If you’re sick, stay home. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve said that this week.

Homeland Security Director: JANET NAPOLITANO:

If they’re feeling sick they should stay off public transit or confined spaces because that indeed is the advice we have been given.

JAMES MAY, president of the Air Transport Association, which represents airlines, sent Biden a letter expressing “extreme disappointment at your suggestion that people should avoid air travel.”

American Airlines spokesman TIM SMITH:

To suggest that people not fly at this stage of things is a broad brush stroke bordering on fearmongering.

Gibbs: No flu warning preceding Mexico trip

POTUS exposed to swine flu? (Felipe Solis story links)

Since the archaeologist Felipe Solis Olguin, director of the National Museum of Anthropology in Mexico City – the epicenter of the pandemic – died, questions were raised and were quickly downplayed. Was barry exposed, did he get sick, was the WH forewarned, did the Secret Service do their job, was it intended to make sick the president?

Thing is by the time the man died it was well past the 3-day incubation stage.

And the Mexican authorities are certain it wasn’t the flu.

Here’s Gibbs on Monday (4-27)

Q Following up from yesterday’s briefing here, sort of what did you know and when did you know it — the first case in Mexico was apparently either reported, or the first death was — I’m not sure — April 12th. The President was there about five days later. Did our team learn of this during the advance or in the course of the visit?

MR. GIBBS: I’m not aware that we learned until I think earlier last week. That’s what I — that’s what I’ve been told and I will double-check on that.

Q So there was no warning or caution given

MR. GIBBS: Not prior to the trip, no.

For a WH press Secretary he sure doesn’t know a whole lot. I’m not aware, I don’t know, let me check on that, I’ll get back to you. I get testy when you question me. Like master like minion.

Axelrod: Madame Secretary is doing “Great!”

April 30, 2009

April 29, 2009

Now ghoulish David Axelrod is singing the praises of Madame Secretary Clinton. Just listen to his words. Clinton- notice the tense – HAD A GREAT KNOWLEDGE OF THE WORLD. Yes she did. Even when she was lazily sipping tea with the ambassadors.

Maybe he thinks she acquired it while she was out stumping for barry before he was nominated while he took a vacation and hid out in Hawaii. Or maybe he thinks she acquired it between the Convention and Election day while she worked selflessly to recruit her voters while being trashed in the media for having ulterior motives. Without her voters barry would not have won. Period. Peraps he thinks she acquired her great knowledge under bary’s tutelage during the transition phase.

Truth is she had it all along and only now when it’s politically expedient, when she’s helping barry and when he can no longer deny it does Axelrod admit to it. Says alot, doesn’t it?

Barama Matthews is talking with Axelrod. Interesting first question. He’s not so sure barry can handle the economy…why he just gave him an A minus.

MATTHEWS:

Is there a sense that she could be helpful to this and on the economic front politically at home. If it is rough going – that she could bring the Clinton coalition to bear on behalf of the president?

DAVID AXELROD:

I don’t know. She’s got her hands full. We’ve got a lot of challenges in the world and she’s working tirelessly at them. So were not thinking about ancillary uses of the secretary of state. When you think about Pakistan, Afghanistan, the Middleast her dance card is pretty full.

MATTHEWS: How’s she doing?

No hesitation.

AXELROD: GREAT!

I think it’s been a wonderful partnership. The president chose her because he knew her as a rival and a colleague as someone who is smart, tenacious, well-prepared, HAD A GREAT KNOWLEDGE OF THE WORLD and all of that is coming into play.

And she’s been a great, a great leading light in this administration.

Leading light. Not subservient light or rogue light or out for herself will only sabotage barry light. She actually cares about The American People and that is clearly evident in the way she conducts herself.

barama asks him about a scene from West Wing about Jimmy Smits picking Alan Alda and something about being inspired by it.

AXELROD:

You know that one of his favorite books is Team of Rivals. And I think he was inspired by that–mostly he was inspired to make that appointment by his knowledge and his sense of then Senator Clinton. And I think his instincts have been proven right.

barry and his instincts had nothing to do with anything. Madame Secretary is no different than she was in the July 2007 debate when all she knew was sipping tea with the ambassadors. and barry understood African villages because his father’s mother lives there. And people bought it because of his “superior judgment”.

And what did he do? Couldn’t even conduct himself on the world stage. He said he would sit down with Chavez. Clinton said absolutely not – it’ll be used propaganda. barry backed off during the campaign and first chance he gets he bows to the beast and shakes hands and yuks it up with the dictator, who called barry’s predecessor the devil. Couldn’t have asked for better propaganda footage – including their little not so private, not so genial chat.

I sure hope someone out there has the time and wherewithal to put together video sound bites of what barry and his camp — that includes the media — said then and what they’re saying now. That’s all that would be needed to prove their castration anxiety and gyne envy.

They want something – she does it.

She does it – they want more.

But before she started doing the very job she is doing for them – she wasn’t capable of doing it.

The difference?

She was fighting for the same job.

Says all you need to know about barry and the rest of them.

barry whines about the teabaggers

April 30, 2009

April 29, 2009

Yes another swing state townhall – why didn’t he have these when he was a candidate? Well he’s still acting like a candidate. Why didn’t he have the courage to debate in a townhall setting with then Sen Clinton and/or Sen McCain?

He goes to these places to get his fix of adoration and to complain about his naysayers. It’s the one and only thing he is transparent about. When he went to Indiana he whined about Rush Limabugh and Sean Hannity. They must have calmed down because this time it was the teabaggers he went after to get his dig in and laugh from the crowd.

And the familiar barry whine: it’s not my fault – it wasn’t me – it was here when I moved in – it’s Bush’s fault.

Arnold Missouri – see CNN video – here’s the CNN relevant transcript courtesy of Martina Stewart.

BARRY: I know you’ve been hearing all these arguments about, oh, ‘Obama is just spending crazy.’ Well, let me make a point. Number one, we inherited a $1.3 trillion deficit — that wasn’t from my — that wasn’t me.

…Then he tells them why he’s still campaigning – he wants to get his health package through to add to the monstrous debt that was there. What’s the next president going to inherit? Morning Joe said that barry’s debt is going to be more than all the presidents combined. That’s sobering. And yes a great deal of it is going to be his fault – not Bush’s.

BARRY: That’s why I’ve said we’ve got to have health reform this year — to drive down costs and make health care affordable for American families, businesses and for our government.

He doesn’t mention FOX as per usual because it was Rick Santelli on CNBC that set off the Teabaggers. The media scoffed at them and here barry is still whining. Gibbs went after Santelli as well. If you can, watch the video to see him dismissively waving his hand when he mentions the teabags. He doesn’t get the crowd roar he was expecting. There’s nothing funny about trillions of dollars of debt. Who can even conceptualize it?

So, you know, when you see — those of you who are watching certain news channels on which I’m not very popular and you see folks waving tea bags around, let me just remind them that I am happy to have a serious conversation about how we are going to cut our health care costs down over the long term, how we’re going to stabilize Social Security.

But let’s not play games and pretend that the reason is because of the [$787 billion stimulus bill], because that’s just a fraction of the overall problem that we’ve got.

Drew Peterson posts updated (5-28)

April 30, 2009

Ok Marcie T. that should do it.

No, I don’t know when the last sighting of the alleged fiance-fiance-ex-fiance was or even if she was crazy enough to return. She moved out on the 4th I believe and Peterson said she was still moved out as of last Friday. We have hers, her father’s and Thomas Morphey’s interviews in the drafts somewhere that I can maybe dig out if you need them too.

Have you tried websites devoted to Peterson? I’m fairly certain there are ones whose sole purpose is following his madness. We’re in Chicago, which is why we’ve followed it.

Here’s one about Stacy and other missing women run by Delilah: Peace4 the missing.  She was putting together a cookbook in Stacy’s honor to benefit domestic violence.

Good luck with everything. As I said – there are a lot more posts in the archives.

Drew Peterson posts: update 5-28

April 30, 2009

Hey Marcie T.

Hope you figured out the last post. Kathleen Savio was initially thought to have died without a will. Then in walks Peterson’s uncle with a handwritten one saying Kathleen didn’t want her family near her estate. She had been murdered just short of dividing the marital assets. Long story short – Peterson got the whole estate. Savio family — Savio’s father, Henry Savio, and sister, Anna Doman– appealed and won. Melissa Doman is Kathleen Savio’s niece.

This is the Feb 4th ruling to Peterson’s appeal. He lost – the Savio family remained in control of the estate.

March 11th: Peterson filed an appeal with the Illinois Supreme Court challenging this lower court ruling.

April 21 Savio’s father and sister file a wrongful death lawsuit against Peterson.

Special Grand Jury investigating Kathleen Savio’s murder and Stacy Peterson’s disappearance are still convening.

Peterson has not been charged with any crime.

Mayor Bloomberg, NYPD, FAA, Pentagon re: Air Force 1 flyover

April 29, 2009

April 28, 2009

Source: NY Times City Room A. G. Sulzberger & Matthew L. Wald

MAYOR BLOOMBERG:

[The e-mail notification] did have the normal language of saying this is sensitive information, should be distributed on a need-to-know basis, that they did not plan to have any publicity about it, which I think is ridiculous and just poor judgment.

Why the Defense Department wanted to do a photo-op right around the site of the World Trade Center catastrophe defies imagination. Poor judgment would be a nice ways to phrase it, but they did. I also think that once they had told us, we should have done a better job. Had I known about it, I would have called them right away and asked them not to. It is the federal government and they can do in the end what they please, but I would have tried to stop it. I don’t know there’s a lot else to say other than they shouldn’t have done it.

NYPD:

The flight of a VC-25 aircraft and F-16 fighters this morning was authorized by the F.A.A. for the vicinity of the Statue of Liberty with directives to local authorities not to disclose information about it but to direct any inquiries to the F.A.A. Air Traffic Security Coordinator.

FAA spokesman JIM PETERS:

the photo op was approved and coordinated with everyone.

Pentagon press secretary GEOFF MORRELL

It was such an obvious mistake that I think it is virtually impossible that it will happen again. Everybody in the wake of this now realizes how insensitive it was and what a mistake it was not to inform the American people, the residents of New York, particularly lower Manhattan, in advance.

=====================

Here’s a few more comments. Source: CNN [emphasis added]

Bush former Homeland Security adviser FRAN TOWNSEND:

I’d call this felony stupidity. This is probably not the right job for Mr. Caldera to be in if he didn’t understand the likely reaction of New Yorkers, of the mayor.

SEN JOHN MCCAIN letter to Defense Secretary Robert Gates saying he was “profoundly disturbed” by the flyover “against the backdrop of September 11.” And that:

“The supposed mission represents a fundamentally unsound exercise in military judgment and may have constituted an inappropriate use of Department of Defense resources”.

CAPT ANNA CARPENTER, Andrews Air Force Base in Maryland said local law enforcement agencies and the FAA had been given notice of the “mission” aka barry photo shoot.

FAA said it was taking part in a classified, government-sanctioned photo shoot.

Deputy Commissioner PAUL J BROWNE said the NYPD had been alerted about the flight “with directives to local authorities not to disclose information about it.”

LINDA GARCIA-ROSE is a therapist who counsels PTSD patients said she was inundated with calls from them. She is considering filing a class action suit on behalf of her patients, calling the flight an “absolute travesty.” I’m sure there are many more. At the very least they could use a direct apology from barry.

GARCIA-ROSE: There was no warning. It looked like the plane was about to come into us. I’m a therapist, and I actually had a panic attack. [Her patients] traumatized. They’re asking ‘How could this happen?’ They’re nervous. Their anxiety levels are high. I believe the government has done something really wrong.

I second it. And I sure wish someone would ask why barry wouldnt know about a) low-flying planes in NYC and b) a “classified mission”. Who has the authority to run classified mission without the POTUS’ ok

Police searching for Stacy Peterson again

April 29, 2009

April 29, 2009

[NBC 5 10:00 News]

No precise reason was given –  but the Illinois State Police were out searching today in regards to Stacy Peterson’s disappearance. Police divers combed a one mile portion of the sanitary drainage and ship canal between Romeoville and Lockport, concentrating on the area behind the Will County Power Plant. Also, today, there was also a “leak” of police documents – a detective’s hour by hour timeline of Drew Peterson’s whearabouts on the day Stacy Peterson “disappeared”.

Illinois State Police Sgt TOM BUREK:

Whenever the investigation leads us ot an area that investigators feel needs to be searched, it’s done when it’s feasible.

Stacy Petesron’s family spokeswoman PAM BOSCH:

I think what we can take from that that they are still considering this a very important investigation and that it’s very active. We believe she can be found, yet, and so we want to put all of our efforts into doing our searches yet. We believe that eventually we will find Stacy.

Drew Peterson’s lawyer JOEL BRODSKY:

They did it all last summer and they’re doing it again. I don’t think it has any significance.

I think that the state police maybe doing both of these things on the same day in order to try and provoke some sort of reaction from Drew to do something that he wouldnt normally do, or to say something he wouldn’t normally say to maybe in their mind provide them with a new direction or lead.

What is there that Peterson won’t say or do?

They are putting on the pressure. Peterson’s fiance moved out. Savio family filed a wrongful death lawsuit, Peterson went on Fox to complain and was aggravated by the anchor’s comments that he should just be a good dad and stop dating to which Peterson responded by making his sons go on The Early Show to attest to what a great dad he is. While he was on FOX he made the admission that he told Stacy’s kids that she went on vacation and “isn’t coming back”.

Seems their plan has already born fruit. Unfortunately Peterson being the scumbag he is brought his kids into it.

So, no, there isn’t anything he won’t say or do to save himself.

Wonder where he’ll be appearing tomorrow.

UPDATE: Nadya visited by Social Services

April 29, 2009

(5-3) Updated list of octuplet postsApril 29, 2009

This is an update to a previous post – links below. Rather than just add it to that I’m posting it separately – the previous post already disappeared once.

Radaronline supplied the following update. They had reported earlier that Nadya had gotten a visit from the Orange County Social Services Agency-Children and Family Services as well as two La Habra Detectives concerning bruising and bite marks on her 3 y/o autistic child. See the “biting” post to get a glimpse of the family history of “biting”.

Evidently all is well – words from Nadya. Note the location of the bite mark(s) – someone inflicted them – he did not bite himself.

[Emphasis added to both updates.]

RadarOnline:

UPDATE: After a forty-five minute visit, the social services agency left Suleman’s home “impressed by how organized everything was” according to the mother of fourteen. Suleman admitted to RadarOnline.com that the visit was her fault after she missed a note from her son’s teacher asking about mysterious bite marks on his back. Asked if they would be returning again for further investigation, Suleman quickly said, “no!’

Huffington Post has follow up from the La Habra Police Department:

On Wednesday, April 29, 2009, La Habra Police personnel were requested to assist Orange County Social Services involving a matter pertaining to the Sulemans. As is customary, the department routinely assists other agencies, when so requested. However, the La Habra Police Department is not involved in any ongoing investigation pertaining to this family.

Octuplets: Nadya visited by Social Services

(5-3) Updated list of octuplet posts

April 29, 2009

This was deleted as was the next post on biting and I don’t know why. It’s getting ridiculous.

UPDATE 9:30 pm

This is weird. I was looking for the video where Nadya reveals more of her mental health history – she said she was a biter – and I ran across this reported by CHRISA from RadarOnline, who does all the in-home videos. One would expect that what they report is credible especially when there are quotes – I’ll leave it to you to decide.

Evidently an “Orange County Social Services Agency-Children and Family Services and two La Habra detectives” stopped by Nadya’s house to speak with her.

Of the two detectives, one came from the general investigations unit while the other was a corporal (who refused to comment) from the homicide/sex crimes/child abuse unit.

As you know, her 3 y/o son is autistic and also a “biter” but I didn’t know the other kids were. This is what Nadya told Chrisa:

Octuplets: Nadya jokes about being a “biter”

April 29, 2009

(5-3)Updated list of octuplet posts

April 29, 2009

I find it interesting that the more Nadya talks about her children, the more she reveals her own mental health issues. Here she says she was a “biter” and mentions that her children do also. Biting in children past the age when they can communicate verbally is usually a sign of anger overload. Very good article about it by David Gottlieb, Ph.D., “Anger Overload in Children: Diagnostic and Treatment Issues“.

Issues that would have been sorted out for the six older children had Nadya accepted Angels in Waiting offer and gone to Arrowhead. In 6 months, the tantrums, kicking, biting and hitting might have been addressed and perhaps even gotten under control.

What happens when 8 octuplets are added to an already volatile situation?

Radaronline gives no-so-subtle hints as to what goes on in the house. They have to cover themselves as “eye-witnesses”. Make sure to listen to the very end of the video.

NADYA: I wasn’t a very nice one. I was a biter. Now I have one biter – right there. [She points the the oldest who closes his mouth.] He bit so much when he was little we’d like have to quit pre-schools.

Matter-of-fact with no concern that an almost 8 y/o still bites with 8 new bite-sized octuplets in the house. And she says the following with her kids standing right there listening.

NADYA: When I was little, my mom and dad paid at least 12 doctors’ bills because I would lunge on top of babies and not only bite them – I would bite them until they bled. I don’t know why.

RADARONLINE: Until you were…

NADYA: …until they bled. Oh, just until I was three and then I kinda-I kinda mellowed out a bit. I remember they were like juicy and I just wanted to bite their cheeks. I remember there was a nurse who said to my mom ‘Get that monster out of the doctor’s office!’.

She talks about the photos she found of herself as a kid and remarks on how she looks like Aiden at that age. Then, off camera:

NO! You cannot hit your mother!

Sounds just as scary as the grandmother screaming just after #3 &4 came home, which caused Nadya and the kids to flee the house.

ROBERT GIBBS PRESS BRIEFING
April 28th

Transcript from the WH website. Just the relevant questions included. He doesn’t know anything, barry was furious, it’s Caldera’s fault, going to conduct a review while they watch the fall out. The press let him off easy. Surprise. He says every briefing he doesn’t know and that he will get back to them – does he?

Q  Thank you.  Two unrelated things.  On the plane flyover yesterday, does the President think that it’s an appropriate use of government funds —

MR. GIBBS:  No.

Q    — at this sort of belt-tightening times to update those promotional photos?

MR. GIBBS: No.

Q    Do you know how much was spent on that?

MR. GIBBS: I don’t have an exact amount.  Obviously I think there have been — Congress has looked into the cost of operating Air Force One, and GAO reports that I would point you to.

The President has directed Jim Messina, the Deputy Chief of Staff here, to conduct a review as to how the decision was made to conduct the flight, to understand — to understand, as I said, why that decision was made, and to ensure that it never happens again.  And the President will look at that review and take any appropriate steps after that.

Read: barry’s gonna wait to see what the press does and the public outcry before he decides to let Caldera “resign”.

Q    I want to follow up on two of Jennifer’s questions.  One, when it comes to the Director of the White House Military Office, Mr. Caldera, does the President have any concerns that this decision he made, that he took responsibility for, indicates a lack of judgment that might make him improper to keep holding that post?

MR. GIBBS: Well, as you mentioned, Mr. Caldera took responsibility for thisI think it’s been characterized that the President was furious upon learning of this decision.  And that’s why he’s asked the Deputy Chief of Staff to undertake a review in order to understand how the decision was made and to ensure that it doesn’t happen again, and based on that, will take steps from there.

I think…it has been characterized…doesn’t he talk directly to barry? Wouldn’t he know exactly how he felt about?

Q   And in terms of the cost of the plane incident yesterday, can you — actually, you pointed to the GAO reports, but can the White House provide, you know, A, how much it did cost, since the President has been making government spending such an important priority; and secondly, a manifest of who else was on that plane?  Were there any non-military people on the plane?

MR. GIBBS: I’m told that — keep in mind this was a — this was two training missions that, in the end, became a picture mission, which the President having quite clearly called today a mistake and one that he will ensure doesn’t happen again. Because this was a training mission, the only people on that plane were Air Force personnel.

So he knows enough to know who was on the plane but nothing else. And here comes typical Gibbs sarcasm when he gets pressed on something he doesn’t want to answer. He’s like a 6th grader.

Q    So in terms of the cost, will you provide what the cost was?

MR. GIBBS: I would point to your reports — I haven’t been in a cabin — there’s not like a taxi meter, so I don’t know how much —

Q    You can presumably figure out how much gasoline is used and —

MR. GIBBS: I would point you to those reports to give you a sense of how much the plane — how much people have said it costs an hour to operate.

Yes, sir.

MR. GIBBS: Can you get the crossword puzzle now?

Q    Back to the Air Force One flyover.  Mr. Caldera said he takes full responsibility, and I just wonder what that means as a practical matter.  The President has said, we hear, that he was furious.  Apparently this guy was chewed out by the Chief of Staff.  But what does it mean as a –

MR. GIBBS: I have firsthand knowledge that the President was furious.

Q    Okay, fair enough.  So he’s furious, this was a mistake —

MR. GIBBS: I wasn’t at the meeting, but I think we can all rest assured that we weren’t at that meeting with the Chief of Staff.

Q    Right.  So in any event, what’s the practical result of his taking responsibility?  Some have suggested he should lose his job.

MR. GIBBS: Well, I think that’s why — I think the President has rightly asked that a review of the situation and the decision-making be undertaken so that we can have a better understanding of why that decision might have been made.

Q    Is firing a potential outcome of that review?

MR. GIBBS: Well, I don’t — I think our course would be to conduct the review before something like that is determined.

Q    Yes, back to the flyover.  What was the — who made the —

MR. GIBBS: I’m going down to a B-plus, just FYI.

Go ahead.

Q    Who made the decision, and what was the rationale for not informing the public?

MR. GIBBS: Well, I think the statement that was put out yesterday denotes that Mr. Caldera made the decision.

Q    Including not informing the public?

MR. GIBBS: I will — I honestly don’t know the answer to that.  I can look into it. I know some, as I think some of the stories mention, there were people in the area that were notified of the existence of the flight.

He knows barry was furious and he knows who was on the plane but he doesn’t know anything else. Why was barry furious?

Q    But those are the authorities, not the general public.

MR. GIBBS: Some of them — right, right.  No, I understand, I understand.

Q    Did it come out of the White House budget then, if Caldera made the decision?

MR. GIBBS: I think — I don’t know where the operating budget for Air Force One is.  I presume it’s out of the Air Force.

[…]

MR. GIBBS: Well, look, I think — not surprisingly, I doubt I’m going to enumerate them.  But I think anybody is hard-pressed to look back over a significant period of time like 99 or a hundred days and think you wouldn’t have done some things differently.  I’ve mentioned a decision today that the President would have made quite differently than was made in this White House. I think it is safe to say that the President spends some time each day reflecting on what’s been done here in the course of any given day, and has asked us and asks himself to figure out how he can do what he does better.

Why does barry think he is separate from the White House? And why is the press letting him get away with it? What are the chances it will be brought up tonite?

Updated: Susan Boyle posts (5-3)

April 28, 2008

Simon Cowell weighs in on Susan Boyle in the UK’s Telegraph.

SIMON COWELL quotes from IAN JOHNSTON‘s article. Cowell wouldn’t say if he was signing her and wasn’t sure Ms Boyle would be able to cope with all the attention – hence his advice.

I’m tired of hearing about the way she looks or the kissing, or this or that. Susan mustn’t become a gimmick.

The problem is with all the sub-stories about the cat and how she looks.

It could all go horribly wrong now because there are so many other distractions.

Addressing her directly, Cowell told her to

get yourself together, sweetheart, for the big one – which is the semi-finals”

Choose the right song, focus yourself, shut your front door, maybe take a holiday and come back to the person you want to be and not as the person you think you should be.

Rudy Guiliani re: Air Force 1 flyover

April 29, 2009

April 29, 2009

Rudy Guiliani was on Fox & Friends just now giving his take. He was pretty mild. They didn’t ask him if he thought there was any way barry didn’t know about it.

He was asked how he would have reacted if he was still mayor:

I imagine very much like a Mike did. Mike was very angry about it – except my language might not have as…genteel. He talks a little different than I do sometimes. But I would have had exactly the same reaction that he had. I’d have been outraged and very, very upset that they did it, on a number of different levels, not the least of which is not informing us – not informing the people – clearly some of whom were panicked by it.

And you know I hate to make too much of — because they did apologize for it – but doesn’t it show a complete lack of understanding of September 11, once again? We’ve redefined it so much we can’t use the word terrorism. We can’t use the word Islamic terrorism. We can use the word terrorism about returning veterans.

There’s a big gap here and this White House. Look at it from another point of view – suppose it were a private jet and from some big American company – GE, GM whatever. The CEO would now be in very deep trouble for having used the plane to take a couple of background shots of something they have probably millions of shots. After all the different explanations trying to hide what this is about. What this is about was taking pictures.

The White House said it was a training mission. It cost an estimated $328, 835.

Anytime you put Air Force One up in the air it’s a training mission by definition. You’re probably trying to keep up the hours, keep up the training for the pilots. That’s why these planes are so darn expensive. Remember that when they go after everybody on private planes. How often the president uses it. How often he uses it for discretionary purposes. Go to San Diego to have a press conference instead of having it in Washington.

I don’t begrudge him that – nor do I think he should undo it. But I do think – boy, if it was a Republican, the hypocrisy would be right out front. He’s saying corporate executives shouldn’t use airplanes. And then he’s using this airplane you can say may be half the time for discretionary reasons when he could save money.

You know there are some reporters here in New York want to see the flight manifest want to see who was on board.

I once used a helicopter to take photographs from. I would do it when I actually had to be on the helicopter anyway. For a photographic exhibit for charity – for the Children’s Foundation. I took 25 photographs of New York and about a third of them from the helicopter. But I remember once going to a fire – I used to keep with me, and I would shoot. You get great shots from places like that.

But the reality, is they gotta clear this. If you going to do this mission, you gotta clear it.

I think the mayor will be very angry that people actually withheld this information from him and he couldn’t warn the people on the ground.

April 29, 2009

April 28, 2009

The flyovers took place between 10-10:30 EST.
WH Press briefing took place at 14:23 EST.
Louis Caldera statement 16:39 EST.

Why did Robert Gibbs not know anything 6 hours later?

Why did it take Caldera 8 hours to make a statement?

How much time does it take to come up with a lie and a scapegoat?

And then barry says nothing until the next afternoon and only in response to reporter’s question. He still has not personally apologized to the folks on New York or New Jersey. Did he personally apologize to his buddy, Mayor Bloomberg?

This is what Robert Gibbs had to say-not say. Listen to how flip he is – he laughs like it’s funny he knows nothing and the press corps goes merrily along.

PRESS SECRETARY ROBERT GIBBS
Monday April 27th

Q Second question, do you guys feel you owe folks in New York City this morning an apology for this incident having to do with the airplane that looks like Air Force One with two fighter jets? There seemed to be a lot of panic —

MR. GIBBS: I would point you to the FAA or Air Force.

Q Everybody’s pointing us to the White House Military Office, so that’s why —

MR. GIBBS: Well, then I would contact the White House —

First off – no apology has been made by barry himself.  Second, isn’t Gibbs the spokesman for the White House as in White House Press Secretary? And why is it funny? Watch the video below of NJ folks running – thinking there was an attack and listen to the panic in their voices. And the WH thinks it’s funny. Next Gibbs admits to seeing news reports but he’s going to have to go discuss things. What was he doing for 6 hours?

Q Well, the White House Military Office won’t tell us anything — they’ll refer us to you. (Laughter.)

MR. GIBBS: Well, then let me go discuss with the White House Military — I don’t — I have seen some news reports but –

Q What was the photo op for?

MR. GIBBS: I don’t know. That’s — I have no information on this other than what I saw

So he saw it. He saw it and didn’t investigate it. And then he wants us to believe he didn’t anticipate the press would ask questions. If so, he is completely ignorant.

[…]

Q I mean, I understand the way this works. I’m just saying, appearance-wise, it’s odd that you guys don’t have a response. I mean, this is the President’s aircraft or what looks like —

MR. GIBBS: I understand. I was working on other things. You might be surprised to know I don’t know of every movement of Air Force One or what happens to it. But I will certainly talk to the Military Office.

Q — very edgy about it.

Q A follow-up?

MR. GIBBS: What’s that? No, let’s go to — yes.

Q As long as you’re taking questions that you’re going to get back to us on, on the flight of Air Force One, the aircraft this morning down along Lower Manhattan at a very, very low level, Mayor Bloomberg says he is furious, it was insensitive, poor judgment, and he would go all the way to the White House to stop it if he knew it was going to happen. Do you think it’s insensitive to have a big aircraft fly low over an area that — when it’s clearly such a trigger for them?

MR. GIBBS: Well, I’m going to find out this information based on Chuck’s question and we’ll try to get back to you with whatever details we can.

Did he get back to them? Yesterday’s press conference wasn’t any more enlightening.

Susan Boyle: Daily Record interview

April 29, 2009

Updated: Susan Boyle posts (5-3)

April 17, 2009

Just noticed this disappeared when I was checking links. Don’t know what happened.

Britain’s Got Talent sensation’s interview with The Daily Record’s LAURA COVENTRY:

Susan has lived alone with her cat Pebbles since her mum Bridget died two years ago at the age of 91.

She has admitted that she has never been on a date or even been kissed but she was too shy to discuss her spinster lifestyle on CBS.

Aaah, no comment. I don’t want to talk about that.

Sawyer asked Susan what she would do with the prize money if she won, but she replied:

Well, it’s just baby steps at the moment, we shall see how things progress.

Susan wouldn’t rule out having a makeover as part of Britain’s Got Talent, telling Sawyer:

You’ll have to watch the programme and find out.

But she did admit there would be no repeat of the dance steps she showed off on Saturday.

That’s it. Let’s try and keep it ladylike.

Susan suffered a mild form of brain damage at birth and she admitted to Sawyer that she was bullied when she was younger.

They did a bit, but they always do that with someone who is quiet and I tended to be quiet at school. Well, they have turned around. They are nice to me now, so we will move on from there.

Susan said her friends and family were “gobsmacked” by her success. And when Sawyer asked what she would say to her late parents if she could, she replied:

I would like to say thank you for supporting me over the years, thank you for looking after me and I hope I can make you proud.

She added:

I went on the audition to see how far I could get but the standard is very high. You need a lot of hard work and perseverance to make it.

I think there is room for improvement though.

barry’s 24 words re: Air Force 1 flyover

April 29, 2009

April 29, 2009

Finally found barry’s comments on Air Force 1 flyover…all 24 words. Where is the “furious” words? The personal apology to New Yorkers & New Jerseyans and whoever else was triggered by that sight?

AP

BARRY: It was a mistake, as was stated.

“As was stated” in this week’s under the busser, Louis Caldera’s statement. [link below] barry is not sorry. And who is responsible for Caldera?

It was something we found out about along with all of you.

BLINK BLINK BLINK = Lie

Looks forward to the camera after the lie.

It will not BLINK happen again.

Of course not – he got his photos.

POTUS wants us to believe he knew nothing about where Air Force 1 was. And he wants us to believe he knew nothing about a “classified mission’.

What does he know?

And why does the press not care that he (allegedly) did not know?

Blames the FAA who had told local and city officials, NYPD and local mayors but warned then not tell the public.

Absolutely no mention of the White House. Not NYPD’s fault.

April 29, 2009

Updated: Susan Boyle posts (5-3)

April 28, 2009

Absolutely not!

Here’s Ms Boyle’s (4-28) interview with Britain’s Got Talent on ITV.com

Giving her first interview since the rumours hit the papers, Susan talks openly to the Got Talent website about what’s being said on her behalf and how she feels about the future…

BGT: Hi Susan, how are you feeling today?

SB: I’m feeling very well, bright as a button in fact!

BGT: There have been reports in the papers that you are “exhausted” and on the verge of a “breakdown”, are there any truth to these?

SB: None whatsoever. I’m not stressed and I’m certainly not on the verge of a breakdown! I’ve never felt more positive, it’s all nonsense.

BGT: In today’s papers the Daily Star has reported that you want to quit the show – is this true?

SB: No! There is absolutely no truth in that either, there is no way I am quitting the show. The only way I’d leave the show is if Simon Cowell kicked me out!

BGT: Your fans have no need to worry then?

SB: They don’t need to worry about me quitting that’s for sure! All I can say to everybody is some of the stories about me in the papers are just untrue… I’m not going anywhere; I just want to concentrate on my singing.

BGT: So how are you feeling about what lies ahead… confident?

SB: I can only concentrate on the song I’d like to sing if I make it through to the next round. I wouldn’t say confident, I’m nervous in fact… but nerves can be a good thing because they make you do your best on the big night.

BGT: Are there any messages you would like to give your supporters?

SB: Well I’d like to say all the best to everybody on Britain’s Got Talent, and to everyone who has supported me so far I’d like to say thank you – it is very much appreciated. All I can promise is to do my best and confirm to everyone that I’m not leaving the show… I can’t say fairer than that can I?!

WH: Louis Caldera re: Air Force 1 flyover

April 29, 2009

April 28, 2009

As of 2200, this is the only White House comment I can find on that outrageously cruel stunt yesterday. If it was a photo op – barry knew about it. If it was Air Force 1 – barry knew about it. If it was a “classifed mission” – he sure the hell had better of known about it.

White House website

Louis Caldera, Director White House Military Office, on Air Force One flight over New York

Last week, I approved a mission over New York. I take responsibility for that decision. While federal authorities took the proper steps to notify state and local authorities in New York and New Jersey, it’s clear that the mission created confusion and disruption. I apologize and take responsibility for any distress that flight caused.

That’s it folks.

NYC residents: I’m sorry. It was wrong. Stand up and say so. Demand an answer directly from barry and don’t stop till you get it. You deserve to know why from the man responsible.

Here’s what barry said about Caldera when he picked him in December:

I know he’ll bring to the White House the same dedication and integrity that have earned him the highest praise in every post, from Secretary of the Army to university president.

POTUS doesn’t know about low-flying planes in NYC??

April 28, 2009

April 28, 2009

Then we’ve got a lot more problems than the economy and swine flu.

For the President of the United States, barry sure doesn’t know what’s happening. Now he wants us to believe he knew nothing about the flyovers in New York because it was a “classified mission”?

A classified mission and he knew nothing about it?

If that is true, it’s more frightening than him knowing and lying about it.

What other “classified missions” are taking place without his knowledge?

It’s one thing with the AIG budgets that were a done deal – but a plane flying that low and unexpectedly in New York City? He knew nothing?

Then how come no word came to him – no alert about what was happening?

If he knew nothing about it, he would have made an immediate statement. As is, he waited, like usual, to assess the fall out and then pretend he knew nothing.

Folks, this man is the President and you don’t mind that he says he doesn’t know about any of these things? That he doesn’t know about “classified missions”?

Do you really feel comfortable knowing that American airplanes – no matter Air Force One or otherwise – can fly over New York without the president’s ok?

What is the biggest fear of the citizens of New York?

What is the most traumatic scene – video, photo – for them?

What do many of them still see in their heads?

An airplane low in the skies heading at them.

And that’s what they saw yesterday, which I am sure for some – maybe even more than some – brought back those horrible day/nightmares. Something some – maybe more than some – had thought they had gotten past.

What if someone had panicked and jumped out the window?

What is the widowed spouse of a man murdered on 9-11 telling a their 8 y/o about mom’s reaction yesterday?

How many New Yorkers were unable to sleep last night? Unable to get out of bed this morning?

How many started drinking or using drugs again after that sight?

Overly dramatic statements, you say?

Just one New Yorker is too many and in absolute surety there is at least one.

And it happened on barry’s watch.

And he says he knew nothing about an alleged “classified mission”.

And people are giving hims a pass.

Again.

This is not ok folks. Most especially if he did not know about it – which I 100% doubt. But since he is saying that – he’s “furious” – he needs to be scrutinized. The issue has to be raised as to why he, the President, is not aware of what is happening below him. Why he doesn’t know low-flying planes are circling New York City.

The press love affair has got to stop. He needs to finally get that the buck stops with him and they need to be the ones to make sure of it. He needs to be held accountable.

What he allowed to happen yesterday was beyond ignorant – it was cruel and inhuman.

Would that have ever happened – classified or not – if Hillary Clinton were president?

Absolutely never.

Just go back over the things barry has done in the last three weeks and ask yourself if any single one of them would have happened with Hillary Clinton as president.

If I was a New Yorker, not only would I be pist, I would be frightened about the president’s underling’s ignorance and lack of awareness. And I would be frightened of the president’s “judgment” in either hiring them or okaying (yes he did) their actions.

And the folks in the New York area who approved it?

Does it seem reasonable to you that having lived through 9-11 and the aftermath firsthand – maybe even saw those planes fly live into the towers and witnessed the bodies flying 100 stories to the ground – that they would allow the planes to fly that low for anyone other than the president? Or at least without the 100% assurance that the order was approved by the president?

Absolutely not on this planet.

Witnesses reported seeing a plane circle over the Upper New York Bay near the Statue of Liberty.

Can you tell if this is a photo from 9-11 or yesterday?

And if you were standing on the ground looking up?

And if you were standing on the ground looking up, having stood in the same spot on 9-11?
