Washington Post headline announcing Lt Dan Choi’s protest and arrest outside the WH:
Two gay men arrested in White House protest.
What does that sound like to you?
Two random gay dudes draped in rainbow flags decided, after smoking a few bongs and snorting a little coke–like POTUS once did–what the hell, let’s handcuff ourselves to the WH gate and sing a little Gaga while we wait for the big bad policemen to come arrest and frisk us?
Or a West Point grad, Arab language specialist, Lt in the NY Army National Guard with two tours in Iraq and a former US Army captain protesting DADT?
The names of the generic “two gay men”?
Lt Dan Choi and Capt James Pietrangelo.
Lt Choi was “discharged” for saying “I am gay” on the Rachel Maddow Show but it’s not official. Capt Pietrangelo has already been discharged.
So what did they do?
Dressed in what appeared it be official Army fatigues and beret, the two led approx 100 protesters to the WH following the Human Rights Campaign rally for DADT repeal at Freedom Plaza. Choi and Pietrangelo then proceeded to handcuff themselves to the WH gate. When they refused to leave, they were arrested on the charge of “failure to obey a lawful order.” They also didn’t have a protest permit.
Not sure why the drastic measure since Lt Choi had been invited back to train with his unit. Now one wonders how soon his discharge will be finalized.
