Today was the 129th commencement at the Coast Guard Academy (New London, CT) and the class of 2010 took their oath of office, which is the same as the generic military oath of offiiceNavy Oath of Office.

I accept this appointment in the United States Coast Guard/ Coast Guard Reserve (strike out one) in the grade of _____ with rank as such from______ (date of rank). This information was transmitted by Commandant’s letter/message (ssic/dtg)___/___dated___ .

Having accepted this appointment, I____, do solemnly swear (or affirm) that I will support and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic, that I will be artrue faith and allegiance to the same, that I take this obligation freely, without any mental reservation or purpose of evasion, and that I will well and faithfully discharge the duties of the officeon which I am about to enter. So help me God.

The above oath should be executed before one of  the following officials; any commissioned officer of the Armed Forces; a United States Commissioner; a Judge of a Court of Record; a Clerk of a Court of Record; a Notary Public; or a Justice of the Peace.

Last sentence can be dropped – Article Six of the United States Constitution – no religious test for public office.
