Epic first round battle at Wimbledon

American John Isner (L) vs Frenchman Nicolas Mahut

ISNER 6-4, 3-6, 6-7 (7), 7-6 (3), 70-68

Took 3 days (called on darkness twice)

Longest match ever: 11 hrs, 5 mins

Longest set ever: 8 hrs, 11 mins

Most games in a match: 183

Most games in a set: 138

Most consecutive service games held: 168 (84 each)

Most aces: 215 (Isner 112)

And today, Isner fell to unseeded Dutchman Thiemo de Bakker (6-0, 6-3, 6-2) in the shortest match this year (1 hr, 14 mins).

I’ve never been this exhausted before. Mentally and physically, I was obviously a bit drained. I just didn’t have much in the way of my legs. I was just low on fuel out there. Didn’t really have a chance.

Of course. I mean, 70-68, it’s pretty sick. People at home who didn’t know it, watching it, I mean, they’ll probably think it’s a mistake. It’s unbelievable.

Isner withdrew from doubles – partner Sam Querrey.
