Sen Bunning’s foul remarks re: Justice Ginsburg

February 24, 2009

I really wonder what goes on inside politicians’ heads. Don’t they realize that every word they say out loud is being heard and potentially recorded by someone?

Senator (and Hall of Fame pitcher) Jim Bunning (R-KY) was at a fundraiser Feb 21st and felt the need to comment on Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg, 75, who underwent surgery on Feb 5th for pancreatic cancer.

(Louisville, KY) Courier-Journal

During a wide-ranging 30-minute speech on Saturday at the Hardin County Republican Party’s Lincoln Day Dinner, Bunning said he supports conservative judges “and that’s going to be in place very shortly because Ruth Bader Ginsburg … has cancer.”

“Bad cancer. The kind that you don’t get better from,” he told a crowd of about 100 at the old State Theater.

“Even though she was operated on, usually, nine months is the longest that anybody would live after (being diagnosed) with pancreatic cancer,” he said.

As you can see, Justice Ginsburg is very much alive – though gaunt as ever. Here, she being greeted by barry at his speech. She received a warm ovation from all in attendance.

And when Bunning apologized, he spelled her name wrong.

BUNNING: I apologize if my comments offended Justice Ginsberg [sic]. That certainly was not my intent. It is great to see her back at the Supreme Court today and I hope she recovers quickly. My thoughts and prayers are with her and her family.
