WH Press Secretary mocks Sarah Palin (video)

February 9, 2010 by mattie

February 9, 2010

Honestly, does he realize that the entire world has access to his press briefings?

Recall Gibbs saying he didn’t want to discuss the birth certificate issue “in such an august setting as the White House“.

Yet this is fine:

MR. GIBBS: Hey, I’m all for it, man.  (Laughter.)  I’ve got a — I’ve got a couple margaritas getting warm right now anyway, so I’m happy.

And why is the WH bothering with Sarah Palin?

How can they compare Palin’s palm notes for a speech she was getting paid good money to get right vs barry’s reliance on TOTUS – even for remarks to his own staff?

Seems Gibbs didn’t get his master’s memo calling for “civility”.

Catch his jab at barry?

FLOTUS’ childhood obesity-fighting: “Let’s Move Campaign”

February 9, 2010 by mattie

February 9, 2010

POTUS signs executive order for establishing a childhood obesity task force (video/text)

FLOTUS kicked off her “Let’s Move” campaign to stop the epidemic of  childhood obesity.

I can’t seem to find the transcript to her remarks on the WH site.

Here’s an introduction and guideline to the campaign: First Lady Michelle Obama Launches Let’s Move: America’s Move to Raise a Healthier Generation of Kids.

LetsMoveDOTgov

Here are some depressing stats:

Over last three decades – the incidence of childhood obesity has tripled.

Nearly 1 in 3 children are overweight or obese

Nearly 1 in 3 children born in 2000 or later will contract diabetes during their lifetime.

Health care costs of obesity-related diseases = $147B per year.

I like how they worded this:

This epidemic also impacts the nation’s security, as obesity is now one of the most common disqualifiers for military service.

The first step should be removing vending machines from schools or at the very least change their contents. And the second – no sugared drinks for sale anywhere in school. Third – mandatory gym class for at least 45 minutes.

Video: Helping Haiti “Everybody Hurts” Documentary

February 9, 2010 by mattie

February 9, 2010

Just as it sounds. The artists sing in the studio in black and white spliced together with color footage of the devastation, including injured adults and children, rescues and a newborn just after delivery.

Warning: The footage includes adults and children in severe pain and shock due to acute traumatic injuries. Full sound of children in pain crying out for their mothers. There are a couple of graphic shots with bleeding wounds (and one impalement) and throughout are the empty, unblinking stares of men, women and children.

Here are non graphic screenshots from the video for those who prefer not to watch the video.

If you would like to just hear the song – video/lyrics/artists.

How old do you think these eyes are?

They  belong to a 3-4 year-old.

The woman seen trapped above (4:15) is Ginette Saintfort. She is reacting to finally being found after 6 days of darkness. Her husband, Roger, stood at the sight of the bank where she worked, convinced she was still alive. In between bulldozer sweeps, he ran around calling for her. When he finally heard her, he started digging with his hands and another man attempted to cut through the rebar with a hand saw. The LA search and rescue team happened by and extricated Ginette – she was trapped by her fingers – which were fractured. It took three hours of delicate work to free her and once she was free, she began to sing. Not long after she walked to a van sat upfront and then smiled and waved as her husband drove her away.

The video of Ginette’s rescue is here.

Barnicle flips: Teapartiers “are NOT all birthers”

February 9, 2010 by mattie

February 8, 2010

Birth certificate posts

Morning Joe

Give Mike Barnicle a couple of days and he will contradict himself. This time about teapartiers and birthers. On the 2nd, says the media overlooked the teapartiers and that birthers are teapartiers. Today he says teapartiers are not all birthers and the media covered them too much over the summer.

Unfortunately, I couldn’t find the video.

BARNICLE:

That’s the thing that emerged from Massachusetts about Tea Party people. They’re not all birthers and those crazy people we showed too much of last summer.

MIKA:

It’s evolving and diverse.

JOE SCARBOROUGH:

We didn’t win Massachusetts and Virginia, New Jersey talking about birthers.

When are they going to get teapartiers are a group of angry people who are not happy with the media first and foremeost and secondly barry. At this point, they do not have well-delineated or defined ideas or a cohesive strategy – but it doesn’t matter. They are a force to be reckoned with.

Tea Party, Andrew Breitbart to media “It’s you that sucks!”

February 9, 2010 by mattie

February 7, 2010

Doesn’t get much clearer than this. But out of all the MSNBC talking heads to go after – it’s not Keith Olberman or Chris Matthews or Chuck Todd or even Rachel Maddow – it’s Contessa Brewer. Gives a little insight into his gyne envy.

mghoft

I know these people. I have cocktails with them when I got into Washington DC and they go: ‘I understand that it’s an act, Andrew. You’re not really one of those people’.

[laughter]

Oh, you better bet your ass I am!

[laughter - standing O - cheering]

When I watched [affected voice] Contessa Brewer on MSNBC [laughter] raise the question whether or not a protest was racist, in which she showed a man have his gun around his chest in his holster – MSNBC did an entire discussion on: are these protests, with these gun-wielding freaks [laughter], are they racist?

Does everybody here know what happened with that photo where they cut the head off?

[crowd: Yes]

That was an African-American gentleman.

[cheering]

That my friends is not media bias.

That is contempt for the American people.

[applause]

In order to create the perception that the minority is the majority and the majority is not just minority, but a bad, racist, homophobic – all those buzzwords that they’ve learned in the freshman orientation class at Wesleyan [laughter] are used as weapons to try to destroy you and to intimidate you to not speak up and to speak your mind.

To the media:

And your days of doing this are over!

[Standing O - cheering]

It’s not your business model that sucks – it’s you that sucks!

I don’t know if this man is a perpetual ragger but he didn’t appreciate Joseph Farah’s mention of barry’s birth certificate in his speech. What was Breitbart expecting him to talk about it? Farah previewed his speech on his website before he gave it. Anyway – the two had words. Another post.

Gene Robinson: “we don’t want another political messiah come to deliver the nation from evil”

February 9, 2010 by mattie

February 4, 2010

It seems Gene Robinson has turned the corner on barry. Listen to his words about Sen Scott Brown and decide what he thinks of barry now. His TV appearances are even clearer.

ROBINSON:

When I heard Scott Brown, the newly elected senator from Massachusetts, describe himself as a “Scott Brown Republican,” I groaned. It sounded as if he’s coming to Washington to be part of the problem, not part of the solution.

We don’t need another knight in shining armor, don’t want another political messiah come to deliver the nation from evil.

We’ve already got one in the White House and one in Alaska ready to ride her snowmobile into town and save the day.

Both the Senate and the House are liberally sprinkled with lone wolves who believe the legislative process revolves around them. Instead of “E Pluribus Unum” — “Out of Many, One” — our new motto could be “I Did It My Way.”

And then he flat out lies:

Clearly, though, his status as the Next Big Thing appears to have gone to his head: When asked by ABC’s Barbara Walters whether he had presidential ambitions, he refused to rule out a run for the White House in 2012.

Here’s the interview transcript (2:00) and the video – you decide.

therightscoop

WALTERS: Yes. You know when I was with you just a little while ago with the crowd, one of the women said — behind me — said, “President 2012.” And you said to me — or under your breath, “That’s silly.” But do you rule it out?

BROWN: I — I have to — I have to tell you, I don’t even have a business card. I haven’t even been sworn in. I don’t have any exploratory committees started. I don’t have any — anything — it’s — it’s overwhelming, and it’s extremely humbling. I don’t know how — what else to tell you.

And it seems Gene forgot that barry was asked immediately after he won his senate seat if he was going to run for president. He said he wasn’t qualified and about 18 months later he suddenly considered himself qualified when he hadn’t done anything. Brown actually has. He has been in the national guard for 30 years and a state senator for 6 years. However, he won’t have the advantage barry had – he isn’t biracial, he won’t be running against Hillary Clinton to get the nomination and he won’t have the entire DNC and barrymedia cheating for him.

Clearly a dig at barry:

At least he’s not the first senator from his state to be for something before he was against it.

Can’t deal with the one we already have:

The last thing Washington needs is another politician who refers to himself as his own brand and promises to chart his own lonely path.

The mighty Obamessiah is all teleprompter reading:

But one thing we don’t have is a shortage of elected officials who see themselves as saviors of all that is good. President Obama was elected to change Washington. If everybody in town tries to sing “My Way,” we get a serenade — but we don’t get the solutions the country so urgently needs.

If barry can’t do it – Sen Brown sure ain’t:

But what goes around comes around, and now the GOP’s crucial 41st vote in the Senate — the vote that can thwart just about anything the Democrats want to do — belongs to a man who promises only that he will march to his own drummer. Good luck with that.

There is clearly a major testosterone difference between Scott and barry. Scott carries himself as someone who can and will and is capable of doing something because he actually can state what he believes in.

I just realize I didn’t post Bob Herbert’s column from last week. I’ll have to find it in the drafts. Herbert wasn’t so vague.

WND’s Kingsolving: Katie Couric should donate her salary to save jobs at CBS

February 9, 2010 by mattie

February 9, 2010

Birth certificate posts

This has to be the most bizarre post I’ve seen lately. WND’s Lester Kingsolving is wondering why “anchor lady” Katie Couric isn’t sharing her salary with other CBS employees who are allegedly being laid off.

I saw the exchange in the press briefing transcript and had no idea where it was coming from, especially when Gibbs addressed him as Chip instead of Lester. After reading his post I still have no idea.

Why is he focused on Katie Couric?

America is still known as “The Land of Opportunity.” And this made me wonder why CBS’ anchor lady, Katie Couric, has not, reportedly, offered to share some of her income to save dozens of her fellow CBS employees – whom the New York Observer and the New York Post, among others, reported are being laid off.

His emphasis.

And why is it he thinks it’s her job to give up her salary to other people?

Because Drudge said she is “the highest-paid TV news personality in history”.

Would he be asking anchor dude Dan Rather to give money to CBS employees?

And why isn’t he going after David Letterman who is costing CBS around $32M a year?

How many employees could he save?

And what about Conan O’Brien getting $32M for 8 months work and then leaving his employees, many of whom traveled with him from New York, without jobs?

And somehow his logic gets him to where he thinks Katie Couric should only be paid what barry makes.

Will Katie Couric ask that all of her salary, except the same amount as Obama’s salary, be shared with her fellow CBS employees, to save them from being laid off?

What planet is this sexist old fart on?

His smirk in his pix says it all.

And why is Lester getting paid at all when he’s not even man enough to push Gibbs about barry’s birth certificate – even after Gibbs opened the door and said they could talk about it “next week”?

And did good old Lester ask?

Nope.

Gibbs asked him if he had his birth certificate and Lester said: “I’m not going to ask about that.”

Here’s his bizarre exchange with Gibbs.

Feb 4th press briefing:

LESTER: In his commendable concern for the unemployed, the president would be gratified if Katie Couric would share 14.5 of her widely reported $15 million salary to rescue those hundreds of CBS employees laid off, so she would still have an income similar to the president’s, wouldn’t he?

GIBBS: Chip – (Laughter.)

GIBBS: Chip is – no. Look, Lester, Lester, I’m – Lester, I’m happy to answer questions on policies that the government –

LESTER: This is unemployment. This is unemployment.

MR. GIBBS: Lester, I don’t think it’s appropriate for me to get into the compensation of a network any more than it is for me to get into your compensation.

For once Gibbs makes sense.

Lester concludes with this:

Earlier in the briefing, Gibbs mentioned: “This recession has cost us 7 million jobs.”

But when it came to all those jobs being lost at CBS, there was at the Obama White House no real comment of concern, but only an unwillingness to comment.

If he was concerned about this back on the 4th – why did he just post this today?

WND’s Joseph Farah’s Tea Party speech

February 9, 2010 by mattie

February 7, 2010

Birth certificate posts

Tea Party Convention: WND’s Joseph Farah talks about barry’s birth certificate and religion.

C-Span video Farah starts (12:00)

Re birth certificate:

It’s a simple question but it hasn’t been answered it’s one of the most important questions that we can be asking.

Bizarre medical joke:

We recently took a guy with no birth certificate and no brain and now half the country is looking for work.

About his speech:

This is the first time American is going to hear about this stuff – it’s going to be shocking.

Seems he’s forgotten Orly Taitz’s appearances, as well as the Lou Dobbs mess. I heard nothing knew as relates the birth certificate as far as I listened – approx 15 minutes.

Snippet of his 40 minute speech from Media Matters.

Text from Farah’s Feb 5th column:

I have a dream. My dream is that IF Barack Obama even seeks re-election as president in 2012, he won’t be able to go to any city, any town, any hamlet in America without seeing signs that ask, “Where’s the birth certificate?

It’s a simple question and it has not been answered despite what Bill O’Reilly will tell you.

The rest of the media think it’s ridiculous, which makes me certain it’s one of the most important questions we can be asking. It really hits the target. Polls now show 33 percent of Californians either believe Obama was born outside the country or have doubts about his alleged Hawaiian birth. Nationwide it’s closer to 50 percent. Even significant numbers of Democrats have doubts.

But the media and the politicians keep pretending it’s all been settled.

I say if it’s been settled, show us the birth certificate.

[...]

Some people say it’s not important where Barack Obama was born. Some think the Constitution is just an archaic old document – or worse, that it’s a “living document,” one that changes meaning over time.

To those people I say there is a process for amending the Constitution. But the Constitution is the basis for all our laws. It’s the glue that holds us together, that binds us as a people, as a nation-state, and we abrogate it and abuse it at our great peril.

[...]

Today he is the Community Organizer in Chief.

He’s still creating crises as a means of empowerment.

Think about it: With Obama, everything is a crisis – carbon dioxide levels, the banking industry, the automobile industry, the health-care system and especially the economy.

He’s going to fix them all, he promises.

How?

By turning make-believe crises into real crises.

Can’t argue with that. H1N1 was a perfect example. barry declared a state of emergency when there was no worsening or change in H1N1 just so he would have precedence for the power. When was the last time you heard about H1N1? It was clearly a manmade virus – the only question is whether it was the “generated crisis” Biden talked about or a legitimate assassination attempt.

After Farah’s speech, he reportedly got into a verbal altercation with Andrew Breitbart [video clip of his speech].

And who was conveniently standing by?

Birther lover Dave Weigel. Another post.

POTUS re: Rep Murtha’s passing

February 9, 2010 by mattie

February 8, 2010

WH statement

Michelle and I were deeply saddened today to hear about the passing of Congressman John Murtha. Jack was a devoted husband, a loving father and a steadfast advocate for the people of Pennsylvania for nearly 40 years. His passion for service was born during his decorated career in the United States Marine Corps, and he went on to earn the distinction of being the first Vietnam War combat veteran elected to Congress. Jack’s tough-as-nails reputation carried over to Congress, where he became a respected voice on issues of national security. Our thoughts and prayers are with his wife of nearly 55 years, Joyce, their three children, and the entire Murtha family.

barry: “She insisted she is going to be buried in an Obama t-shirt”

February 9, 2010 by mattie

February 7, 2010

updated

Right when you think barry can’t get any more narcissistic he out does himself. Chatting up the DNC with the same old litany of all the problems he walked into and all? the things he’s accomplished, he gave an example of why healthcare needs to be passed. He mentioned a “woman in St Louis” who didn’t have healthcare and succumbed to breast cancer. He didn’t bother mentioning her name – probably because he didn’t know it – but made sure to mention “She insisted she is going to be buried in an Obama t-shirt.”

What did that sentence have to do with anything other than proving – once again – that it is all about him?

I read the transcript of his speech and this little fairy tale wasn’t in it.

martysoffice

Without TOTUS, he didn’t know what those “kind of exams” were that she needed. The audience reaction is interesting…especially the women. Don’t think he was expecting laughter. He better get used to it.

I got a letter, I-I-I got a note, uh, today, from one of my staff – they forwarded it to me – from a-a woman in St. Louis who had been part of our campaign, very active, who had passed away from breast cancer. Uh, she didn’t have insurance – she couldn’t afford it, so she had put off having uh, having uh, the kind of exams that she needed. And, uh, she had fought a tough battle for four years – all through the campaign she was fighting it – but finally she succumbed.

And-and she insisted she’s going to be buried in uh, an Obama t-shirt.

She was fighting not just to get MEMEMEMEMEME elected….

*Excellent comprehensive discussion of the woman whose name is Melanie Shouse by TOM MAGUIRE at Just One Minute. You’ll see she did have insurance and the means to pay for it but ended up on Medicaid. She also admitted she was aware of the lump in her breast but chose to “deny it”. Healthcare reform and being buried in a barry t-shirt (she was cremated) are not the morals of this story. Early detection, breast self-exams and routine screening are.

Just a note for women out there. In every state a woman can get a mammogram even if she does not have funds. Women’s organizations, family planning centers, breast cancer groups/websites, clinics and even hospitals can help if approached – especially if you feel a lump like Ms Shouse did. A good example of why the new guidelines recommending women stop breast self-exams are dangerous.

The Breast and Cervical Cancer Prevention and Treatment Act of 2000 allows for use of Medicaid funds for treatment of women who started their screening through the National Breast and Cervical Cancer Early Detection Program (NBCCEDP), which was started by the CDC to provide free or low cost testing for women unable to pay. There are programs in every state.

Here is another site that has other links for free mammograms.

Bottom line: every woman in America can get a mammogram if the effort is made. Free mammograms, however, do nothing to cure denial.

Palin: “we need a commander in chief not a professor of law standing at the lectern”

February 9, 2010 by mattie

February 8, 2010

updated

Whoever wrote Sarah Palin’s Tea Party Convention speech put in some good lines. The teleprompter line was good but I think this was better.

Her quotes start at (1:00)

The events surrounding the Christmas day plot reflect the kind of thinking that led to September 11….It was treated like an international crime spree not like an act of war…treating this like a mere law enforcement issue places out country at great risk because that’s not how radical islamic extremists are looking at this. They know we’re at war.

And to win that war, we need a commander in chief, not a professor of law standing at the lectern.

Gibbs: barry’s illegal alien auntie

February 9, 2010 by mattie

February 6, 2010

Robert Gibbs questioned about barry’s illegal alien auntie. He says multiple times that barry has had nothing to do with her. The president has no legal ability to interfere anyway. Gibbs also says the family has not helped auntie out. Where was the question about auntie’s appearance at the inauguration? We are to believe his aunt was there and he never spoke to her?

Transcript [emphasis added]

Q    Robert, do you know if the President has submitted a statement on behalf of his aunt, who’s in a deportation hearing for the second time today in a Boston courtroom?

MR. GIBBS:  The President learned of this information, as you probably know, on the campaign trail I think in early November of 2008 when it came out.  We said then and we would continue to say that everybody in this country should and must follow the law.  We have not been involved at all in that hearing, and we’ll let the law play out as it should.  And I would refer you to ICE for any other comments on what happens with the hearing.

Q    On that question, though, he did not submit a statement to –

MR. GIBBS:  No, no.  He has not — this information came to light, again, I believe — I don’t have the exact date — early November of 2008 — he has not spoken with her.

Q    Did he help at all with the — with her legal representation or did anyone in his family help with –

MR. GIBBS:  He did not.

Q    Mrs. Obama or –

MR. GIBBS:  He has — he has not, the family has not.  This is an issue — this is a legal issue and the President strongly believes that the law must be followed by everyone.

Why hasn’t the media investigated themselves how she is able to afford a lawyer instead of a court appointed lawyer.

And where are the questions about her still ripping off the American taxpayers?

All US military facilities to stock morning after pill

February 9, 2010 by mattie

February 6, 2010

All US military installations around the world will now stock the “morning after pill” – Plan B One-Step (levonorgestrel) in addition to oral contraception and condoms. The pill has been available in the US without a prescription. The Pentagon order follows a recommendation by the Pentagon’s Pharmacy and Therapeutics Committee, an advisory panel made up of military medical professionals. The Pentagon said the decision was a matter of uniformity and not prompted by the secretary of defense or the administration. The panel recommended the same back in 2002 and it was re-visited in 2006.

So why now?

Because of the rape epidemic?

Because they had to drop Maj Gen Cucolo’s crazy policy of punishing women who become pregnant?

He said he wanted his soldiers to think first before they act – and Wendy Wright of Concerned Women for America feels the same way. She told CBN News the pill is “a political tool for abortion advocates” and that “the military needs to focus on discipline and proper behavior, because lives depend on it, not promoting risky behavior.”

How is carrying the morning after pill promoting risky behavior?

Where is this Wendy Wright’s comments on women being raped at a rate twice the civilian population (1 in 3)?

And who is she to talk about what the military needs to focus on and “lives depending on it”?

As a side note, that Tim Tebow Super Bowl commercial – had there been no mention of what it was about before it was aired – you wouldn’t have known what it was about. Did CBS make them tone it down?

Haitian man rescued after 27 days? (video)

February 9, 2010 by mattie

February 8, 2010

CNN’s Dr Sanjay Gupta reports on Haitian Evan Muncie, 28, who was rescued from under the rubble after 27 days. The people who brought him to the hospital said they found him while digging out the marketplace. That must have been a shock.

He was still confused at the time of Dr Gupta’s report due to severe dehydration and malnutrition. He also had festering wounds on his legs. It is hard to believe that in 2010 people are contracting and dying of tetanus. He said that a “man in white” had brought him water periodically.

A few jokes from Leno about the Super Bowl – bonus Sarah Palin. Here’s the story of how the Super Bowl ad came to be and Leno’s thanks to Letterman.

JAY LENO:

The Saints won the Super Bowl 31-17 and there was a huge blizzard in Washington – 2 feet of snow…so it’s true what people said: ‘the Saints would win when hell froze over’!

—-

As you know, I watched the game with Oprah and Letterman. Letterman and I hadn’t seen each other for 18 years. We lost touch. He found me on Facebook. He made a friend request – I accepted and we hooked up and watched the game.

In fact, the commercial went so well, Dave and I have decide to go to Vancouver to compete in the two man luge.

It was really a great time.

—–

What’s with the Roman numerals? Why can’t it just be Super Bowl 44? Why does it have to be XLIV?

I feel like I’m getting a text from a 13 y/o girls. BFF…XLI…OMG.

The winners got $83k and a Super Bowl ring…the losers got a Toyota.
